Hi everyone! Just wanted to say this site has been great! I accepted my job offer with Saudi Aramco and my family and I are relocating to Dhahran and leave on 05/14! We have taken a lot of advice from this site and can't wait to get over there! Still waiting on our housing assignment but I know we will be in the Dhahran compund. I have a 18 month old daughter, any advice on what my wife and daughter can do in the 1st month to make friends etc.? Thanks, Kyle Hi Kyle, Great news and congratulations! It appears that you are travelling with your family at the same time i.e upon first arrival in KSA/Aramco? This maybe because you have a very young child, whereas I have two primary school-aged kids and thereore need to secure schooling for them first? My Relocation Advisor has informed me that I need to travel on my own first and then apply for my family visa and iqaama? Can you shed any light on this perhaps? Did you have a choice or was that what was informed to you by RA? Many thanks, Yamaaan Save

Thanks - this is very useful information as I'm thinking whether to get a car or not. I don't particulalry like driving, even in London (let alone the 'Saudi' way of driving), so I use Uber for work and social use as much as I can.
Is Uber readily available in Dharan? I know Aramco/Saudi gov did make a recent investment in Uber so this should become even more prevalent in the future.
Cheers Save

Hi everyone,
Is it the normal procedure for the the applicant/employee to travel to Aramco first and then the family to follow once you have got their visa/iqamah?
Is it not possible for the family (wife and two kids) to travel with me at the same time on my first arrival to Aramco/KSA?
If the family must travel after I have arrived and I've sorted their visa, iqamah, housing and school, then roughly how long does that process take on avee (I appreciate it maybe like asking 'how long is a piece of string' but a ball-park figure would be ok taking into consideration housing and school availability both of which appears to be scares resources).
Cheers, Yamaaan

o All, This is my first post as I embark on this epic journey - I'm currently on the BI and medical/visa stage after two successful interviews and being furnished with an amended offer (still not what I was expecting but overall package much better than the 40% tax I currently pay). I'm from London and will hopefully travel with my two young kids and wife if all goes to plan. I'll provide a more detailed time line once everything is confirmed (touch wood). Due to the housing crisis in the compounds at Aramco, I have been requested to sign a form to clearly show my acceptance of a non-compound housing with RAA until such period a compound housing can be provided. The only advantage I see with compound living compared to the outside is you can send your kids to Aramco schools if you live on the compounds and they are supposed to be the best schools in the country? My question regarding the Rental Assistance Allowance (RAA) are : 1. Is this paid in cash on a monthly/annual basis? 2. Is the max paid i.e. for family on Global GC 11+ at max RAA ~$60K? Or based on actual rental and if so then I would expect one to get the 'best bang for their buck'? I ask because it's a case of either living lavishly or saving as much as you can depending on whether cash is paid or max paid based on actual rental. I could certainly ask my Relocation Advisor but wanted to start my first thread and participate in this great forum. All the best , Yamaaan Save
