Quite a bit of information in there that I will have to read, re-read, print, highlight and make notes on. Pretty serious stuff in there. I'm thinking the next two months before moving are going to be pretty stressful. Hopefully my house sells quickly so that we can begin getting things ready.

O&GEngg,
We just got our house on the market this week, and as we've noted, you and I are on the same timeline. Sending postive waves to you and your family as we navigate the same waters!
I haven't heard from the shipping folks yet, and they still want me to come out earlier (late June-early July).

Nice work dtromp! If you're all headed over at the same time then late June/early July may be a bit aggressive but if you're headed over before your family then it may not be too bad. I think if you're in the latter situation then it could be tough on your family getting things ready without you around but everyone's situation is different.
As soon as I get word from ASC that they have our passports stamped with the visa we'll put our house on the market. Fingers crossed that both of our places sell quick.
The info that I have from the shippers (pretty freaking extensive) is that they have to get someone out to do a "visual survey" of all the stuff you're taking. I think that gets an estimate of weight and then you can decide where to go from there with e-boxes vs. land shipment.
The engineer in me wants to do my own calculations on our stuff but the wife isn't too thrilled about spending time on that LOL. I figure we can get two bathroom scales for the heavy stuff. I can pick up one end of a couch and stand on the scale and my wife can do the same on her end. Add the number together, subtract our body weight and, voila, that's the weight of one couch. Continue throughout the house until all furniture is accounted for. Personally, I don't know what her problem is...j/k

Just to comment on the timing from visa application to visa stamp received...looks like the embassies have been turning things around pretty quickly. That's a great sign! Hopefully the one here in Canada is just as quick! The sooner I can hand in my resignation the happier I'll be.
