Hi All, Here is my final update. The journey I started in February with ASC has concluded its North American chapter and will start a new chapter in the kingdom on Sep 24th. I learnt a lot from this forum and appreciate all your feedback and support. The moderators do a fantastic job so kudos to them. Application Position: Project Engineer Location: Dhahran, SA Online Resume Submission to U.S. Recruiter: a while go (don't remember) Follow-up email from Houston ASC recruiter: Jan. 10, 2013 Houston Interview conducted: Saay, Feb. 9th, 2013 Email offer received: Feb 26, 2013 Fedex offer received: March 06, 2013 Revised Email offer received: March 08, 2013 Revised Fedex offer received: March 11, 2013 Revised Offer and Medical and BI paperwork mailed to ASC: March 11, 2013 Relocation Adviser assigned: March 21, 2013 Received direct deposit/Visa app/booklet and other paperwork packet: March 21, 2013 More paper work "initial contact check list" etc via email from Relocation Advisor: March29, 2013 Mailed all paper work to Relocation Advisor through Fedex: April 01, 2013 BI cleared: April 29, 2013 Visa medical tests done locally in Calgary and submitted to ASC: May 29, 2013 Resubmitted missing test results (Local lab missed two tests!! caused us a month delay!!): June 21, 2013 (Word of advice-Take the Houston orientation and visa medical option) Remote Orientation: Done locally on July 12, 2013 Visa Medical Cleared: July 26, 2013 Visa application submitted: July 29, 2013 Visa Stamped and received in Houston: Aug 29, 2013 Departure date: Sep 23, 2013
Total time from interview in Houston to departure date - 7.5 months It was not easy to live two lives during this period but as everyone says patience is a key and eventually stuff does get through. Constant follow up with your RA ia a key and make sure things are done right the first time. One little mistake can cost you months worth of delay. If anyone has any questions drop me a PM, I will try my best to answer. We are off to Cabo San Lucas on Sunday for a week vacation and then off to Dhahran. Good luck to you all in your adventures. Here are some pitfalls I had to face while dealing with ASC in Houston. I write this so others may benefit from knowing them in advance and be prepared.
- The original job interview was planned for a certain day and the recruiter at ASC told me it was for a certain position while it was actually for another one (a better one). I came completely unprepared for their questions. However I made it.
- The morning of the interview I was informed that my future boss didn't make the trip to Canada so I'll have to wait for another conference. (They finally flew me somewhere else for the talk).
- After 4 months I still haven't received refunds from those interview days. Not that I care very much of that money but I was assured I'll get it by August 30th. None of my emails on this subject were return.
- My red envelope containing the health questionnaire was not entered in the system and a month later I was asked to go rewrite & renotarize it. Minutes before leaving to the notary's another email came stating that the envelope was found and I didn't need to go anywhere.
- The day of the flight for my orientation (departing from Canada) I was not let into the airplane due to a discrepancy related to the spelling of my name and passport. Even though I quoted the two ticket #s I was still left stranded and didn't complete the trip. Frustrating, probably the fault of their travel agent. This time I got a call and apologizes.
- After deciding to do the orientation remotely I received the invitation email only 30 minutes before the videoconference started, i.e., 06.30 AM. I just happened to be sitting at my computer otherwise I'd have lost their notice.
Be patient. I am sure that these and other issues will be resolved with time. And each story is different. I see this job as a big adventure so I try not to get frustrated. But beware, these things happen.
Ante.

Flying out tomorrow morning! It's been quite a journey already, in paperwork terms, so much so that the actual physical travel seems a comparatively minor affair. My ducks are in a row, I have all my documents and other errata to hand and I'm ready to get out there!

Hi Jo,
I tried to reply to your last post but it hasn't been approved yet and I cannot send you a PM until I post a bit more! Did they tell you how many Secretaries they are looking for? What department will you be joining? Are you in a studio or 1 bedroom apartment?
I have so many questions (!) but will wait until I get PM privileges.

I read many of the timelines posted here, and I have a question.
I was interviewed in Houston September 21. The recruiter said, "You'll hear from us late next week".
Late next week is here, and I haven't heard anything.
If they have zero interest in me, would they immediately say, "Thanks, but no thanks"?
Or should I consider the lag time as them preparing my offer?
Ultimately, I have no choice but to wait for an answer... but even a hint or a clue would be nice.
Might even help me sleep at night.
Any advice is appreciated. Feel free to PM me.
