After the 4th position interviewed for over a period of 3-4 years, I finally have an offer. This is obviously a huge achievement for me and actually it seems this all will have worked out for the best since the position requirements are ideal. I want to share my timeline and will continue to update as this progresses.
Here is my timeline (Organizational Performance Advisor - US): First interview : Feb 19 2014 (only interview, no 2nd) Offer Email: Mar 3 2014 Offer Package received: Mar 4 2014 Orientation: Mar 13 2014 Offer negotiation: Mar 13 2014 Revised offer received: Apr 2 2014 Offer accepted via email: Apr 2 2014 Offer package sent back to ASC: Apr 9 2014 Relocation advisor assigned: Apr 10 2014 Initial contact with Relocation advisor: Apr 10 2014 First contact by BI: Apr 16 2014 School acceptance letter: Apr 16 2014 Additional medical info requested: Apr 21 2014 Additional medical info supplied: Apr 29 2014
That’s where we are as of now. So far it has been pretty quick — biggest gap in communication was during the couple weeks post salary negotiation chat.
Fingers crossed it all moves forward without any significant issues. Happy to share any insights if anyone has questions…

aymansamy - a week from the time your passports were sent to the embassy to the time they were stamped?!?!? CROW!!! That's pretty impressive. I have to wonder if it has something to do with the fact that you're in an operations role. I've also been offered the role of a Drilling Engineer...your timeline has given me some hope that my visa will come through in a timely fashion. I'm looking forward to working with you over there! Safe travels!

O&GEngg,
I wonder if KSA embassy in Washington is more staffed/efficient than the one in Ottawa? Maybe this is one of the reasons? I don't think that to be a Drilling engineer helped to the visa stamping but probably help to have the visa le sooner.
Regards.

The position it's not important when applying for the visa in the local KSA embassy, it's only important for the visa blocks. One week it's normal for most of the KSA embassies I know, for instance in Lisbon and London it takes from 2 up to 5 days to stamp the visa after application.
Regards.

Just a clarification: When I said that the position was important for the visa block I was referring that the visa le on the visa block need to match the position that you're being hired. It doesn't mean that for some positions visa blocks are faster, actually blocks are requested for lots of different positions, so I guess it's not related. It's all about previously having empty slots for the a specific position.

o everyone!
I've received my offer and yesterday got a relocation advisor assigned. I'm still in the process of sending them required docs, need BI clearance, need to get medical done and attestations done - so very early stages in the relocation process!
I have obviously been communicated not to resign until told, and I understand that advise on resignation is given once visa is stamped on the passport?
My question is - my notice period is 3 months at my current employer - and I've communicated this to Aramco.
I also understand that after the visa is stamped then basically one has 3 months in which they need to arrive in Saudi?
Can anyone plz give their experience as to when the offer is made unconditional and confirmed so one can resign?
Thanks!

Hi there UK_Finance_Applicant,
Many future Aramco expats faced this challenge including a few of my Malaysian friends who have already joined Saudi Aramco.
Timing is of the essence here and we are on the same boat.
The moment your visa is stamped in your passport, you have exactly 90 days to arrive in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Once your arrive, a Saudi Aramco representative at the airport will take your passport to apply for your Iqama which is the work/residence permit for your long term stay in the Kingdom.
Most employers will require you to give three months notice prior to resignation. Hence, this is where you need to plan and strategize - perhaps utilise your remaining leave days and also to explore the possibility of having your passport stamped with the visa slightly later to give you additional days to serve your final obligatory period with your current employer.
Good luck and hope to see you in the Kingdom very soon!

Hi Ritzkool,
We are facing that issue right now. My husband is giving his notice today, and will try and negotiate to shorten the three months notice period. I will keep you informed how it goes.

Ritzkool,
Do not resign until they tell you to, that my advice. The all process can take 3 months to 9 or even more until you are able to travel to the Kingdom. You can try to spare some vacation days to use in those 3 months notice period, or you can negotiate with your current employer something else, it depends what is your relationship with you current employer, every case is a case so you will know better when to talk to them.

It is amazing how different it is in Houston. Most of the people I have seen give their two weeks notice are either escorted out of the building immediately, or a day or two later. I have not seen many people who even finish out their two weeks...
