Dear ALL: Regarding the schooling I've learned that there is a British school near Dhahran/Dammam but this is quite a way away from RT. I'm a little concerned of security also for driving the kids from RT to the school in Dhahran/Dammam. Any experiences of the school in RT? What are the facilities and general quality of the school? (only seen a few pics but not many to do with inside classrooms, gymnasium, pool, etc)... Would appreciate any remarks of experiences with the school or further insight. Thanks.

G'day
I have two daughters going to the Aramco schools (elementary and middle school). The schools are very good. I would not even consider having my children travelling three hours a day to go to a school in Dammam/Khobar.

Hi Marco,
Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate your thoughts. I guess I have a little more confidence with you sharing your thoughts and a few PM's I've received. For now it will just be getting over there and finalising things.
Cheers again for the feedback.

Re the schooling: depends on the age of your children and whether you are already in the British system. There is a divergence between the Aramco education syllabus and the British one, particularly at the lower grades. We have recently moved our children to the British school and they commute on the bus each day. The bus service is excellent and it's an hour door to door. The road is scary but the bus drivers are well versed in how to deal with the vagaries of the Saudi driving mentality. There are no bus monitors on the buses down to the Dhahran Academy schools (on whose campus you'll find the British school) however. As I work at the same school, I am able to accompany my two which of course provides my piece of mind as they are young.

I have two children that just got excepted in the Aramco schools in 1st grade and 3rd grade. My question is that what are the choice of foreign languages will they have at this age level or will they?

Introductory Arabic is taught until grade 2. Second language instruction (French or Spanish) are taught starting in Grade 4 if I am not mistaken. Our daughter is in Grade 2 right now and is learning basic Arabic which is great (except that she's only been here a month and won't get it next year). I believe there are opportunities to learn languages outside of the class curriculum (summer programs etc) although we have not explored those option as of yet...

What is the time of commuting from RT to DH main office? Is it better to use your own vehicle or the company buses are fine? (in terms of time saving) What about the Aramco buses, are they comfortable enough to read while traveling or is everyone standing and pack like sardines?
Thanks. --Ante.

In the 6th grade, the students take 1 trimester each of Arabic, Spanish and French. Then in Grades 7 - 9, they choose one they want to focus on.

o everybody!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience with confused newbies just like me! My husband has got the job as an English teacher for Aramco ITC not directly but as a HAKA contractor. As he is not eligible to live in Aramco Compound, he is staying in Tamimi Compound in Ras Tanura. I will be joining him in November after the end of the probation period. I wonder if I will be allowed to use the facilities of Aramco Compound (beauty salon, gym, swimming pool) on my own? Thanks a lot for your help!
Regards, Dar'ya

No, you must be an Aramco employee or dependent to use the facilities. You could come in as a guest of someone living in the Aramco community, they will have to sign you in and accompany you.

Aramco has a home Internet service. DSL for about $45/month. There are 3G and 4G routers you can get from Mobily or STC. We have a 3G router from Mobily and it is 600SR every 6 months.

Thanks a lot, vpainter!
Coming to the compound as an "invited guest" is definitely an option. Cheers!
