Hey, I had a friend say that he drive from Abu Dhabi to Bahrain in 7 hours. So, from Dammam to Dubai is probably in the same time frame. As far as hotels, there are tons in dubai, many at less than 100 USD per night. Go to booking.com to check out the choices. I have used it many times. The Jumeriah Beach area is very nice, but if you are looking for something cheap, check out Al Barsha or Bur Dubai.

Driving to the UAE border takes around 4-4.5 hours, the immigration check-point will take you maybe 30-45 minutes (eye scan etc). Don't forget to bring your Iqama (and your family too if you're bringing family). Don't forget to fill in your tank to full BEFORE entering UAE (there's a gas station on the other side of the road so make a u-turn before the border gate and fill up and then make another u-turn to go into UAE). Gas prices are 4 times higher in UAE.
The drive from the border gate to Dubai can take from 7-9 hours depending on the speed you're driving (it's a long drive but enjoyable as the road is much better). Be aware that the UAE traffic enforcement is very strict so stay within the posted speed limit.
As for hotels, well, that's what google is for. There's a range of prices from the very expensive to Dirham 200-300 depending on your taste.
Having a GPS really helps.

Great comments from Azraeil. You might also check the Aramco corporate discount directory. They have excellent rates for hotels in Dubai.

I've found booking.com to be as good as the Aramco rates with plenty of choice. But if you can get the availability through Aramco, then there are some good deals.
Cheers Buster

May I ask a silly question - why do you wish to drive to Dubai? on our recent vacation we flew from Bahrain to Dubai and then Mauritius and flying from Bahrain to Dubai was a very short time limit - approximately around 40 minutes - if you drive you will encounter taking out a huge chunk of your time of Eid driving? less time to enjoy everything that Dubai has to offer - perhaps you have a large family so hence you would prefer to drive but believe me the road will be very busy because of Eid and a lot of hassle for you even before you can enjoy your break - I have posted on the forum a few months ago excellent new apartments in Dubai at favourable rates so I do hope you may find this information useful - if you decide to drive please be safe.
Kind Regards Carolina

Can anyone tell me if there are reasoanably clean restrooms along the way from Dhahran to Abu Dhabi or Dubai. If yes, I will appreciate if you can post the approximate location (such as: near the border, or so many miles after entering the border, or any petrol/gas station, etc.)

I remembered that we stop right after the border at a gas station and the toilet there is clean. Almost all the Adnoc (dolphin logo) gas station is like the one in the states, they have a small mini Market and the toilets are clean.

Before I forget, when we went there last december, some of the roads are under construction so be extra vigilant and careful especially of the speed bump out if nowhere. They have those humps that you usually see in the Dhahran hills in the middle of a 4 lane highway.

While working for Saudi Aramco, do we require a Visa to visit Dubai. I recently booked a hotel to visit Dubai on Nov 4th and was told that I require a visa which cannot be processed within 2-days. I am a Canadian. I was planning to drive.
Please advise. I do not wish to arrive at the border and sent back.

o All : ) Thankyou everyone for your your feedback and suggestions.I highly appreciate it.So hopefully I'll be journeying to UAE on 3rd of Nov.It takes 11 and a half hour to get to Dubai so we thought of taking a break at the Half way.I read/heard quite good reviews and Followups about the Five Star Resort 'Hotel Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort ' At Al Ruwais. So we will be spending a night there and will continue our journey the next day.Good thing is this Resort(Al -Ruwais) is in the border of UAE and It's only 5 hours and 30 mins distant from Saudi Aramco Dhahran : ).So ppl with Children have a great chance of ending up the journey peacefully . About Travel Informations please give a look at it : - The following categories of visitors may receive their visit visa at the airport, upon arrival. 1. AGCC Residents who are not GCC nationals but who have a high professional status such as company managers, business people, auditors, accountants, doctors, engineers, pharmacists, or employees working in the public sector, their families, drivers and personal staff sponsored by them, are eligible for a non-renewable 30-day visa upon arrival at the approved ports of entry. 2. National citizens of the following countries: UK(with the right of abode in UK), France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Ireland, Greece, Finland, Spain, Monaco, Vatican, Iceland, Andorra, San Marino, Liechtenstein, United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and holders of Hong Kong SAR passports will be granted a free of charge visa for a single visit upon arrival in the UAE. It should be noted that this list may vary slightly from time to time and it is therefore best to check with your local UAE embassy or the airline that you are using to fly to the UAE. - If you do NOT fall into one of the above categories, you will require a visa and a sponsor for your visit. The sponsor normally applies for the visa on your behalf. Valid sponsors may be as follows:- a - Hotels & Tourist Companies can apply, on your behalf, for a Tourist Visa (valid for 30 days); or a Service Visa (valid for 14 days); or a Visit Visa (valid for 30 days and can be extended for other 30 days) b - Airlines & Airlines Handlers apply on behalf of their crew members for a 96-hour Transit Visa. c - Other Organizations based in the UAE may only apply for Visit Visas and Service Visas. d - Individuals (Relatives or Friends) already resident in the UAE may, subject to guidlines, also apply on your behalf for a Visit Visa. Hi, has anyone recently driven from Dhahran to Dubai? We were planning to take a road trip for the upcoming holidays and would love any advice from recent travelers (duration, driving/road conditions, immigration process, tips, etc). I also heard there is a new online visa process for GCC residents to obtain a visa pre-arrival to Dubai (link below). Has anyone tried this yet? Is it valid for arrivals at the border by road or only at airports? gulfnews.com/news/uae/government ... -1.1510174
