Hi There,
It would be much appreciated if anybody can help me navigate the salaries and grades at Aramco. I passed my second interview and I was told by the global HR team that I will be receiving an offer soon. What can I expect as an international expat, they already shared with me the benefits (40% overbase + 20 % settlement) and other benefits , but they asked me for a base salary. I have double master degrees MSc and a MBA, a PhD in Articifical Intelligence with concentration in Machine Learning and Deep Learning , and 14 years of international experience. Which grade could be a good fit for my scenario, I have currently a base salary of 175K CAD + 15% Performance Bonus + 6% Global bonus (Since I work for a multinational company here in Canada).
Could you please help me break down this offer and prepare for my negotiation with the HR team ?!
Thank you in advanace for your collaboration

Ask for a Grade of 16 minimum, base salary of 240 USD minimum+40%+20% Anything lesser than this is not worth. I recently moved from Canada

I highly doubt that will happen. Since you are in ML area, why don't you jump to a silicon valley company and get a $300K base salary before you talk to Aramco? Aramco tends to match your base salary, so the higher you have now the better.

Thank you all for your replies and contribution, do you really think they are going to bump that salary to 240K USD + 40% + 20% , giving the fact that now the canadian dollar is losing its value against USD. I have a couple of interviews in the pipeline with some big tech companies , but I am trying to compare the amount that I will be taking back home in this case. Thank you arabco for the feedback , which region of Canada you moved from and what was your background and experience ? I appreciate the feedback. ghzhujwmao , do you think from your experience that Aramco will match or compete with Sillicon Valley companies and match that offer?

I'm afraid there is not a chance they will offer anywhere near 240k base, that would be a package of almost 400k and way above what Aramco pay in this space. I presume is for a GC14 position so I expect you will get offered somewhere around 140k base which will equate to a total package of around 220-230k. It's not great considering your field and future earning options, which will dwarf this if you choose to follow the money.

I agree with Mcshane. If lucky, you can get grade 15 and the highest base salary I guess will be $200K, which is still far from the Silicon Valley package. At Silicon Valley, a Ph.D. in AI/ML with 14 years of experience can get a total package of $700K.

Thank you guys for your valuable insights. I got today a follow-up email saying that an official offer will be made. I am going to negotiate a base salary with 240k-250k range , in addition to other incentives but most probably I will be entertaining this until I get a proper offer from one of the big tech comanies in Sillicon valley. I will keep you updated about the situation.
Thanks a million!!

You need to tell the Houston recruiter about your minimum salary expectations well in advance before the first offer comes in else be ready to go down the negotiation rabbit hole. It normally take months for a negotiated offer to come back and sometimes the position is filled by a Saudi national ad there are a lot who are returning back from the West after their PhDs. So be very bold from the beginning, don’t be shy to push the Houston recruiter

So today I received a bunch of emails to create profile on Aramco's portal and start uploading my information on SilkRoad application. Do you think it is worth to waste the time now by filling all these forms before I even discuss my expectation with the HR recruiter? if so ? what would be the approach , should I contact them back and explicitly ask them what kind of offer you have in mind, or I should wait for them to contact me first. It is a bit confusing the way the process is initiated, I feel like we should agree on the base salary and the package first and then I go ahead and fill in the papers. Any thoughts , ideas ?!! Thank you again for your guidance and support

I would say limit your expectations, I think the best you can get is a matching base close to your current one around 130 USD plus all the other markups , they will tell you about the tax free savings , subsidized housing and schooling if you have family. For 14 years experience you will be getting grad 13-14 and if lucky maybe 15 but I doubt it because aramco value experience more than education.
Unless you have an offer from other company to negotiate higher base I think you have tough time getting more than that.
My two cents

Hey asra, I am assuming for 130k I won't even bother and fill in the paper work. A junior data scientist can make now 130k as an entry level now in the industry. I can't lower my expectations here because I know my industry is doing really well and there is a high demand now despite the recession that iting the world and especially the north american market. But at the end of the day, I have 14 years of experience in Data Science + a Phd which is an equivalent to an aditional 3 years of work experience (at least this is how it is calculate here in Canada), plus in my domain , having a PhD is like having the right toolbox to finish the job, a lost of research and development is based on it. lastly I am coming from computer sicence and software engineering background, so if Aramco can't look at my profile as a whole , I don't think it is even worth to proceed. I really apprecaite your feedback all now my questions are more focused on the following areas: 1. what would be the expectations for those 17-18 years of experience in this case ? is it GC16 ? is lower or higher? 2. What is the potential growth there , I gave been leading teams for the last 5-6 years and I do have a PMP and Scrum master certificates and extensive experience in leading software engineering projects. 3. Can we apply for another position internally while working for Aramco or the offer will limit any lateral transition or even changing a team or a position within Aramco. I appreciate your feedback once again and thank you all for your contributions. Looking forward to hearing from all of you !!

Jagoul, where did you get your Ph.D. and MBA? Aramco appreciates candidates who graduated from top universities and usually offers a higher salary.

ghzhujwmao both degrees MBA and PhD I got from Concordia University in Montreal and my Project Management Professional certificate, I got it from McGill University also in Quebec. by the way McGill is ranking 30 world wide now and Concordia is top5 in Canada in Engineering. Also I want to mention that I got a data science mini degree in Data science from Johns Hopkins University. I hope that helps in giving a more specific idea about my profile.

UT, UBC and McGill are probably the schools Aramco treated as the first tier because Aramco sent its students to these schools.
