Essentially for those who recently arrived and will arrive soon, do not hesitate to make contact. For example send a private message or leave an answer in this thread.

Rakah-nians, We just arrived less than a week ago, and my 12(ish) year old daughter haven't found people her age to hang out in the pool, etc, we also have an almost 8 year old boy. Feel free to call my unit 1862 (or knock the door if you wish ) anytime. Cheers, Calgary Guy (cgyguy)

o Neighbors!
I just moved into Rakah as a bachelor. My wife and 2 sons (11 and 15) will be here later in August. As others have noted, it is pretty deserted right now. In fact, there are no cars on my entire street, and evidence of only one neighbor. Folks that I've seen so far don't seem to want to make eye contact or respond to "o". Maybe its due to my spaced-out jet lag look.
I'm in villa 1261.

Another bachelor here, just got in July 1 with wife and daughter (5 years old) in mid-August. Villa 1343.
Why don't we get "the guys" together and do dinner?
Thoughts?

o everyone! We found out this week that my husband has cleared his BI/Medical/and Visa Medical. We are just waiting for a Visa le so we can start the big move. As of now, we are assigned to Rakah and have two little girls, ages 7 and 3. I can't wait to meet everyone.

Hey Everyone,
I arrive on August 20th from Canada. Even though its been a short time, is there anything you wish you brought with you that you didn't?

akapur448,
In my villa, there are two totally unused 220 volt outlets (2x2=4 plugs). They do require a plug adapter for the more modern 220 plugs, but the adapters are stocked in the commissary. I bought a 110v microwave in the US prior to coming over; I wish I would have just waited to purchase one here. I will probably buy a small one here soon to use while I wait for our shipment.
Talking to other expats, not all villas are the same.

For anyone whose wives / children are already in kingdom at Rakah and have trouble finding contacts / making friends, please pm me their emails and I will connect them.
Dtromp - all villas are the same except the six or so 'executive' houses near the entrance which are not being renovated. If you are referring to 220v outlets, these all start the same (one kitchen circuit at 220v, rest of the house 110v) but two further cicuits can be changed to 220v with a call to maintainence.

The following circuits can be changed - maintainence will change two: Master bedroom + ensuite Rest of 2nd floor Den + utility room + entranceway Lounge
Kitchen +laundry already at 220v on arrival
I should have also mentioned, for families with young children (under five), there are sometimes get togethers in the community rooms (ask at the clinic) during weekday mornings where they can meet other mothers and find toys. It is informal so if no one is there try again. Storytime is also on at the library one day a week - ask the librarian or pm me for scheduling.

I will be around the whole summer, do contact me house 1201 or send me pm so I can show the wives around. Also, once you arrive you can join rakah resident Facebook, that will keep you updated with all what is going on on the camp. It's a good way to get all you questions answered and get in touch with all the lovely ladies, just get in touch with one of us and will add you to our fb.
Welcome to a new interesting life,
Hanadi
