Hi Mac, Welcome! Only the elementary school provides lunch (or *will* provide lunch -- they are still sorting it out with the food vendor). The middle school doesn't.

Hi Bluecheese,
Fencing the backyard area would be ideal, you are correct. The issue at hand is that our relocator asked to the Housing Dept. if that would be possible and they came back with a negative answer. That's it, the Housing Dept. said that it is not allowed to install any permanent poles on the ground to install a fence of any kind.
Perhaps Aramco has contractual obligations in their lease of Rakkah. That's quite possible.
From the forum someone asked why I would want to put a fence as it would limit the amount of light into the house. Well, a chain-link fence is a very simple and inexpensive solution and we would be more than happy to pay for it. Unfortunately it is not an option.
We are trying to figure out how to solve this issue. That's why I would like to know from any current Rakkah resident with a medium/large dog how they manage.
Regards

I wonder if free-standing fence sections might be an option. There are currently such temporary fences around the perimeter of the major community gathering space in DH camp for an upcoming event. Someone currently in Rakkah, working in DH would know what I mean. Might be worth approaching with that question, perhaps with pics in hand. Just an idea, since fence holes seem to be out of the question. If I'm mistaken about the fencing described as being free-standing and temporary, please, someone, correct me.

Another possible solution could be an invisible fence/collar for each pet. I have neighbors here in the US who use them, and I will consider doing that for our dog in Rakkah (35 pound French Brittany). Google search "invisible dog fence" and you'll find numerous options. I don't know if any are available in SA, or if any can be shipped. I'll likely bring one with me and install it myself.

Hadia,
Alot of building sites and other events designed to segregate people from certain areas use a fence called Heras, temporary and very strong - see google and type in Heras fencing for details
Hope this helps

spudulike,
Ok, good to have more info. Might be useful for those of you in Rakkah. I don't live there, but was trying to suggest an idea to explore.

Thank You for all the feedback on the possible solutions for the fence on the backyard at Rakkah to contain dogs. Indeed many good ideas/solutions are available and definately the temporary Hera fence is the one that I will consider. I already discuss it with my relocator and she is going to put it forward with the Housing Dept., she likes it because it is temporary and nothing is digged into the ground. As soon as I get feedback from the Housing Dept. I will post it.
The "invisible fence" or "underground fence" might be a solution for some, but for me it is not an option: Last year one of my neighbors did install it to keep his 70 lb Doberman out of his planting beds, I tried it on my wrist at the lowest setting and I assure you it was painful; I would never do that to my dog. Again it is a subjective matter and it is only my opinion, no intention to start any debate.

Just heard an 'official' response from Community Services that "Occupants are allowed to have their fences at the edge of the patio".

Your relocation advisor should be able to send you a brochure, which has plenty of pictures, floorplan, community map, etc.
The furnitures are as shown in the brochure, except your house will not come with a TV and rugs.

The beds in the Rakkah homes are standard U.S. mattress sizes for King, Queen and 2 Twins.
In the room with the 2 Twin beds there is a 9 drawer dresser (7 drawers and 2 small half size drawers) and a 6 drawer tall boy chest and a two drawer night stand. Sorry do not have dimensions.
In the room with the queen bed there are 2- 3 drawer night stands, a tall wider chest of drawers with 2 large drawers at the bottom and 4 shallower drawers above those two, and one of the 9 drawer dressers.
In the room with the King bed (master bedroom) there is a 12 drawer dresser and a 6 drawer chest and 2 - 3 drawer bedside tables.

Is washer and dryer provided in Rakkah houses or you have to purchase it?
Thanks.
