vpainter, Thanks again for the information. We are trying to wrap our heads around the logistics of getting the kids to school. As our daughter is only 5, we don't yet feel comfortable sending her on a bus unless I can travel with her. Can women drive from the Aramco offices into the Dhahran compound? If they can, I could drive in with my husband and take the kids to school. If not, my husband may need to drive into the compound and take a bus to the office. As mentioned, it would be ideal if there was a place on the compound to park a vehicle.
Thanks!

I have been repeatedly told that moms can ride the school buses with the kids.
Yes, women can drive in the Core Area where the offices are into the residential compound, you will have to show your ID card, since you won't have a resident car sticker for DHA.
Currently, the employee work buses are delivering people to their offices. Depending on where his office is you could walk or catch a bus to get there to pick up the car, once in DHA.
The Core Area is within the Aramco gates. There are a few offices outside those gates and you would not be able to drive from those. So will depend on where his office is located.

Could anyone please let me know the following regards golf carts
1) Are golf carts preferred to go from point A to point B inside Rakkah compound? 2) If yes, are they provided by Aramco inside the compund? 3) If no, then what is the recommendation to buy the golf carts from - US or KSA 4) The bus service inside the compound is the hourly service that runs inside the compound and also from compound to compound? i.e. no dedicated transportation inside the compound?
Thanks in advance

1) I do not think its been open long enough to know if this is the preferred method of getting around the compound.
2) No Aramco does not provide golf carts.
3). You could ship one in or buy them here, new or used. They are new at 8000Sr to 10000SR here last I heard, but may have gone up since then, it has been sometime back that I heard that price.
4) At this time, there is a taxi company inside the compound. Do not know if there is a shuttle bus inside Rakkah. I will ask.

Rakkah is relatively small, so I don't think there will ever be a shuttle inside the camp.
I have not seen anyone use a golf cart yet, but perhaps because everyone who have arrived so far are placed close to the central building. If you arrive in the near future (say within the next 1-2 months), your house is most likely located near the central building, as well. So everything is practically within a walking distance.
If you arrive later, you may be placed farther away from the central building in which case a bicycle or scooter or golf cart maybe needed. The only potential problem with golf cart is parking. There are only a few parking spots in the central building, although there are plenty of parking near the tennis & basketball courts.

All, two more questions on housing:
1) Are the mattresses (in the master as well as the other bedrooms) new? If not, are they clean enough so we can use them (with or without a mattress cover)? We do want to use some if possible but would bring new if there is any doubt.
2) Are there dressers and chests in each room? From the pictures it seems like there are but want to verify.

Mattresses are brand new still wrapped in plastic.
Every room has dresser, chest and mirror.

Fantastic, thanks revive! One more thing: Are these US style box spring mattresses or something else?

Ram723 and Aramcomom, these are security questions and will not be discussed in a public forum.
I ask all users to not post or answer questions regarding any and all security in the forum.
Thank you.

Are any Rakkah residents leaving a car in the main camp during the week? Is there parking available to do this?

Hi all...brand new to the forum and soaking in as much information as I can.
I'm still very early in the whole process but it sounds like most (if not all) new hires are going to Rakkah. I presume that my family (wife, kids - 2, 4, 5) would be located here. I read that Rakkah has a school from K-3 but the recruiter said that the kids would need to take the bus to DHA. Personally, I'm not sure if I'm overly comfortable with this as I've heard some horror stories about the roads over there. However, from what I've gathered here on the forum the bus rides from Rakkah to DHA have been rather uneventful.
If my work day is from 0700 - 1600 what would my commute look like? Leave Rakkah around 0600 and get back around 1700?
Also, since this thread was created last August does anyone have any new pros/cons about the Rakkah compound?
Lastly, just to be sure...the chances of my family and I getting a place in DHA as a new hire are slim-to-none, yes?
Thanks in advance!!!

Many or all of the company Dhahran offices are on the big Dhahran compound, so your husband can park on the compound...

O&GEngg,
I think they have K3 & K4 in Rakah so there will be no need for the bus rides. Starting with KG though, they will have to take the bus.
I think 40 minutes or even 30 minutes is a good window to leave for work from Rakah if you are driving on your own. I'm not sure if there are work buses to and from Rakah (I suspect there is)
Yes, slim to none.
