Moderators and other active members, all you guys deserves an appreciation for putting your time to provide valuable info and it is helping my family a lot. We are developing an understanding of what to expect and best way forward, hey guys THANKS for all that. We received offer letter early this week. We have two kids, my daughter will start Grade 1, and my son Pre-K from September, 13. We come across post negating pre-k in Aramco schools, but someone mentioned in one post that there is a pre-k at Dhahran. Does Dhahran camp school offers a pre-k for someone more than 4 years old but does not reach and age of 5 years on September 1, 2013?

The post you saw was asking if Aramco had closed the private preschools. The answer was no. Also all Aramco compounds have a PreK3 and a PreK4 class, then Kindergarten.

It's adorable, watching the pre-K kiddos wait for the bus, with backpacks bigger than themselves, practically. They are so happy to be going to school like their big siblings.
Children thrive academically and socially in the Saudi Aramco Schools.

K3 and K4 is 2 hours and 45 minutes per session (morning or afternoon), 5 days per week. Kindergarten is all day.

K3 and K4 are part of the Aramco schools. There are still some independent preschools.
K3 (child must be 3 years old on or before August 31 and potty trained) does have a monthly fee which will be deducted from your salary. I don't remember exactly what they said the fee would be for next year, maybe 800 or 850 riyals per month.

o,
I've heard conflicting info on K3. My relo advisor told me that Aramco school only starts at K4 (and she even confirmed it with the school in Dhahran).
So does K3 really exist?? Or is it more of an informal (home-based) daycare outside the school system? And how do I register for K3?

There is no K3 at Dhahran, the school starts at K4. THere are programs in people's homes for children younger than 4 years old (not sure at what age they start in the homes, 2 years old maybe?). We arrived 2 months ago and my 5 year old finished out the year in K4. His teacher told us that Aramco has plans for K3 and K2 in the future, but they have to find the classroom space.

Thanks for the info.
But I'm still at loss on UmmRiyam's post above.

It seems your relo adv was talking specifically about Dhahran. The schools are crowded here, and there is talk of expansion needed due to large number of new families. UmmRiyam is in a different camp, where they may have space for an official K3 program. I've heard the same talk as JustTheFourOfUs about a potential K3 in DH, but I've not heard about a K2. If potty training is a requirement for K3, it will be interesting to see how a K2 would function.

Thanks Hadia. Yes, my relo advisor was talking specifically about Dhahran (and confirmed with the Dhahran school). But then I was also under the impression that all kids from all camps go to school in Dhahran. In other words, I thought the other camps do not have school on-site, only Dhahran does. So I guess now some of the other camps also have pre-K.
