I wonder if some of you were able to get the Import Permit for your cat/dog from the US or Canada. As far as I understand this document can only be written by the Minister of Agriculture in KSA.
Also any advice for the Canadians regarding airlines? I'm supposed to travel around August. I also wonder about the summer ban.
thanks in advance, ante

Ante,
We arrived from Toronto about 6 weeks ago. The only viable airline for us to travel with our pet was KLM.
ALL the other airlines that fly into Dammam had issues with bringing our dog in as Checked baggage with us (whether it was layover times / inability to care for the dog on the ground or lack of space on the aircraft servicing DMM). That being said, KLM were great as far as transporting her and keeping us informed on what was going on. We were updated by the flight crew to confirm the pet was on board at each step of the journey. Re your other point about the import permit. It has to be done here in Saudi after the paperwork is prepared in Canada. There are vets that will do it here (the Khobar vet clinic is one I believe).
The overall process is not difficult, just time consuming and has to be done in the correct order if you want to avoid the costs of a relocation agency.
As I understand it from another new hire, KLM does not impose a ban on travel. Unfortunately, their reservation call center in North America is directed to Delta Airlines in Atlanta, which does have a travel ban. The other new hire actually had to speak to a supervisor to verify that and allow the dog to be booked on the same flight.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you want to see the paperwork we had to prepare to ship the pet over. I can forward it to you via email.

gbhatia,
How did you get your Import permit from the Vet in Khobar? It sounds as if you were still in N. America when you got the Import permit. We are planning to arrive in late July and will probably bring our dog as luggage on KLM. The Relocation guide states that the Ministry of Agriculture will review the pet's paper work after we clear customs / security in the airport. We thought all we needed was the authenticated paper work from the US Agriculture Department and the Saudi Consulate here in the US. Do we also need to send the paperwork to Saudi Arabia to get an Import Permit from a Vet in Khobar? Also, would you mind letting us know how you went about getting the Import Permit? All advice will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
Rick

This s the time of year when a lot of people are heading out on repat leaves. School is out next week, but some people have left already. The camp empties fast around the last week of school. Not everyone leaves, obviously, but many do. Maybe vpainter could call this person to see if he's around.
Everyone needs to remember, the people who help out here are all doing it on their own time and it must fit around their life that is ongoing.

I know they are already OOK, since I was told they would help, once they are settled in and they get on the internet, you should get an answer.

The vet does not have to within 30 days. Just the health certificate from the USDA. That is an airline requirement. We brought our two dogs in and the vet paperwork was over three months old.
