Hi Everyone, My husband works in Khobar and commutes daily to RT. We've heard that Aramco had taken over/reserved some housing in Khobar on a compound. We know that some new hires are there already - new kids at the kids' school live there - does anyone know if anyone other than new hires will be allowed to move there? If so, does anyone know how to bid/apply to move there? Thanks

It is under renovation, so it's probably being filled upon availability, just as housing is on the compounds.
Check with housing for current information regarding the compound.

@ rtrcmorns Yes, Aramco has recently taken over a full compound/complex with around 539 villas.Aramco is renovating the whole place with superior furnishing and landscaping. It has already been offered to ppl on the priority list (upstream/core area). first moves will happen in few weeks. Depending upon your husband's dept and job skills - this compound might not be offered to him at all. He needs to check with his management. As the family-housing is really constrained in DH/RT/UDY - all/or most new hires with work location in DH - will go to this Local Compound. this local compound/move process is being handled by a special team, so i doubt your local community representative knows other than something exists in Dammam ! (we tried !)

Someone visited the compound recently and took loads of photos. It is a very nice unit with 4 bedrooms and 5 (yes you read it right) bathrooms. The units are huge and even comes with a maid quarters (so basically 5 rooms). The units are all excatly the same so no "executive housing" like the one we have here in the Dhahran compound. It has all the necessary ammenities like Gym, Tennis, Swimming pools, squash etc etc etc ....
I was told by the same person that all American/Canadian new hires will move there and all core-area personnel who now lives in RT will be given opportunity to live there as well. The RT compound is being slowly taken over by the big Saudi-Aramco/Dow Chemical project personnel.

Hi Azraeil
My job offer is for a Project Management position (Upstream) in RT, but I have just started the process and I suppose I will be there by year-end.
Based on your post, could it be that in the meantime my housing assignment will get changed to this new compound?

If there are photo's available could someone post them please. I expect an offer after my Dhahran visit last week. This compound could be an option.

May we conclude from this that the RT compound is full?

Well, no compound is ever absolutely 100% full, in the sense of every single housing unit being occupied. But it's obviously fairly close to capacity. However, in terms of availability of housing in RT, what I would take from the posts in this thread so far, is the likelihood of additional housing units in RT being freed up by the people currently living there and commuting to a work location in Dhahran, who are apparently going to be moved to this new compound.

This isn't a trick question. In 2009 the neighborhood on the street opposite the gae was nothing but abandoned houses. Those houses were updated and families moved in in 2010 and 2011. In 2012 there were several blocks of abandoned houses along and opposite the beachfront near the golf shack that were being refurbished and families were just starting to be moved in there. There were also some abandoned houses opposite the swimming pool (near the gae, not the back pool) that were being refurbished for new families.
From the standpoint of "finished" houses at that time the compound was essentially full meaning that houses were not available for families moving in until the refurbishment was complete. In fact our neighbor's house was not finished until about a week before he moved in.
Is the RT community better/worse/the same at this time?
Thanks

Are you moving back in? Maybe you could email one of your former neighbors for more insight, if it's a specific area you have questions about?

My understanding is that for those working in DH and living in RT, they are on the priority list to be moved to the new compound. There is also the plan for moving the SADARA people (Dow-Chemical and SA joint venture) into RT so there is a need to clear some space in RT as well.

Hi
Should one expect that the RT compound will be full when the SADARA people (Dow-Chemical and SA joint venture) start moving in?
Thanks

The Dow people have been moving in for several months now, maybe close to a year. But people come and go, so camp is never "full".
