Newcomers, please be sure to keep your pets and little kids safe and indoors at night, and don't leave any food wrappers or trash in your yard or walkways. We're in DH Hills. Cats disappearing in our area. One neighborhood regular wanderer was found mauled -- absolutely horrible demise, and devastating for the family and children to discover. Pest control is setting traps it seems, but be advised to be on the lookout. Those of you who are joggers or dog walkers may have more to add on this subject. If you haven't arrived in Dhahran yet, FYI it is dark here around 5:00 now.

To add to the caution a bit... when we attended orientation three weeks ago, it was suggested we take a hiking stick with us "just in case". We were told the dogs were more afraid of us then we of them but still, as with any animal you do not know or that does not know you, do not approach them in any manner that can be considered threatening. If you've got your mobile, call security and report your location. According to what we were told in orientation, security will come and give assistance as needed. I myself have not encountered any wild dogs while walking the trail but others I know have. In most cases, the dogs took off as soon as my friends encountered them.

I must add, I encountered a pack of 3 dogs close to Peninsula Blvd near Al Kharj. I am sure they were looking for food in the trash bins located nearby. I usually have my kids ride their bikes around 5 pm so I am more cautious now than ever.
A sy wooden stick or a cane is definitely a must for walkers/joggers at night.

Thanks for the heads up. I jog around the golf course and along canyon road regularly and often after maghrib. So far have not seen any wild dogs wandering around. Its great that folks here on this forum are up......... the residents. Does community services have some way of warning the residents about such issues?

I see them all the time from distance while I am walking the peninsula blvd. As others said, carry a stick if you decided to walk or jog and keep your pets inside.

Yes, they regularly send Community Services Announcements by email. For instance, in the case of wild dogs there was an announcement not long ago (around a month or so IIRC) sent to all Dhahran residents with a list of phone numbers to call if you spot any wild dogs around camp, and reminding people not to leave any food outside that might attract animals.

I must have missed the announcement/email . THanks . BTW, I saw two of these dogs on Peninsula Blvd tonight-chased our car for few yards then gave up.

I would say that after SAMSO (who send an awful lot of them) Community Services sends the next largest number of email announcements out via the company email system. I must admit to sometimes "skimming over" them without paying full attention, especially if the subject line doesn't grab my attention.
If we could still access the company Intranet and/or our desktops from the outside, I would have gone in to find the announcement and post it (or an extract from it) on here. Unfortunately, those options are no longer available.
