Hi everyone, still trying to get best advice on wheather to buy new furnature for whole house from Canada and ship to SA.
While doing so I received intersting information, you might get reimbursed by CRA for Provential and federal taxes you pay on new furnature you ship outside the country. Is this true? I called revenue Canada, customs, furniture shop, shipping agent and got conflicting answers.
Also, should I expect to pay customs duty in SA if I ship new furniture in original boxes?
Thanks.

I am thinking about this also :
My understanding is that you need to be a non resident of Canada to avoid paying the sales taxes if you are taking the goods yourself. You also have to show the goods having been exported and get Canada Customs at the shipping port to stamp the documents verifying exportation in order to file the claim. However, given you won't be a non-resident until you actually leave Canada, this may be difficult. The alternative is for the seller to ship the product overseas so they do not have to charge sales tax. However, presumably you will want other stuff shipped along with the furniture so this may not be an option either.
