Hi Yousif,
Currently working in Yanbu but haven't used the forum for a while. Life in Yanbu is fairly quiet but the people here are good. You have beaches, sea, mountains & desert all within a short drive. It's almost expanding on a daily basis so more hotels, car showrooms and shops etc arriving all the time.
Housing for Aramco is in the Royal Commission, not compounds. If you're single/bachelor you'll be given a 1 bed apartment - if it's family you will get a pretty big house. There are 2 compounds here which Aramco will give you some assistance to paying if that's what you require (GC11+) but they're quite expensive.
Hyperpanda, Saco, Sony & Jarrir are some of the bigger chain of shops - Pizza Hut, Dominoes, MacDonalds are easily recognisable. You can pretty much get everything you need here but Jeddah is only a few hours drive away if there's anything specific.
There's some pretty big projects taking place at the moment so lots of extra people around as well.
Cheers Buster

Having a car makes life easier here but there are plenty of buses/taxis to get around. Aramco has daily work buses, shopping buses & Jeddah/Makkah/Madinah trips. Also a bus to the Aramco beach (which is about 50km away but private).

johnster,
Almost all roads in the Kingdom are dangerous! Especially the long roads between major towns like Yanbu/Jeddah. The road used to be awful 15 years back, but now is a full highway, two lanes each way. The problem isn't really the roads though - it's the drivers. On long boring stretches, the reckless ones tend to kick it up a notch, flying down the highway at 200+ kph. And there's a lot of truck traffic on the road, and the drivers have a tendency to fall asleep on the boring stretches.

Don't forget having to watch for camels on the road or crossing, especially at night.
Just like watching for deer or moose or other large animals in other parts of the world.

Wutz & vpainter,
Thanks for your feedbacks. Mybe I will just ride the SA buses going to jeddah.
By the way, I read somewhere in RC yanbu Directory that SA have 3or4 Sports Club Bldgs. Do you have any idea what are the amenities in those buildings?

Assuming you are a direct hire and living in company-provided accommodation, there are no electricity charges or utility bills, the company pays those for you.

Hi guys , I am new to this forum.. got an offer from SA under direct payroll for Yanbu refinery in GC11 cadre..back ground checks are going on..entire process may take another couple of weeks, meantime would like to hear from all few information pertaining to life in Yanbu: 1. Company provided accommodation (CPA) was mentioned in the offer..how spacious is CPA? Is it fully furnished? What about other amenities? 2. When will visa processing for spouse start? What all documents are required for the same? 3. My wife is carrying and as i understand she will be joining me only in another 3-4 months time period..what about the visa procedure for our baby? 4. What is the avee living expense for a bachelor/family of 3 in Yanbu? 5. What all are the out of pocket expenses in compound life(Royal commission in this case)? 6. Is it necessary to own a vehicle? Is SA providing transportation in Yanbu??How much will it cost for buying a car (new/pre-owned)?? 7. Any further tips or advice as a beginner to this forum and SA?? Thanks in advance, Mac

It has been awhile for this thread... Finally, I will be joining Aramco a month from now (Community Services dept). Here's my last question in mind. Hopefully someone from Yanbu could answer this. Where is the office in Yanbu located specially for our department? How far it is from the accommodation (Royal Commission I think)? Special thanks to vpainter and to all the guys behind who have contributed this site. Indeed such an informative one about Aramco.

Hi Jonster, I believe the community services department is inside the NGL plant, it is possible there is another one in the Refinery but I am not 100% sure. The aramco accomodations are in the Royal Commission and it takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes to get to work depending on the traffic. Hope this is helpful for you.
