I got my visa approval finally! I ran into the problem of incorrect job le on the application form (see /post/111879/thread) but it's been straightened out and I'm hoping to be in Kingdom before Thanksgiving. I do have a question: after reading some of the posts it appears to be a good idea to bring water filters - faucet (tap to you non-US'ers ) and shower. Can anyone tell me if the shower line in Dhahran single housing is a straight to the shower head setup or one of those hand-held type with the long flexible tube that comes off the tub faucet? Oh, and if anyone has any last minute suggestions for anything else to bring in my luggage (I've selected the cash-in-lieu option) that would be greatly appreciated as well! Thanks! Nonno

I'm glad you told me, thank you It made it to my spam folder and I missed it. I'm traveling "in-lieu" so am limited to my suitcases. I was planning to ship my professional books via UPS and have my kids ship any items I simply "cannot live without" once I settle in. Thank you again for your kind email. Nonno

Just be careful about any modifications to the shower head. I know lots of people have done it, but during new hire orientation they told us that the penalty for interfering with plumbing is a fine up to $2000 (US) plus disciplinary action.
I suspect they save that for instances where people have plumed the sweet-water to the main house water, but we were warned that any modification must be pre-approved.

You can change your shower head no problem. The plumbing modifications refer to changing the actual water lines: raw water to sweet water.

Is replacing a head shower with a hand held shower allowed? Thank you.
