Updated. Interesting fact, but from what I understand somewhat normal, the job and location that I interviewed for was not the one I was made the offer for. I will now have to research the difference between living in Dhahran and Ras Tanura.

After hearing of the horror stories on this forum of people being asked to leave during their probationary period, I would advise you of checking the requirements of the new job against your qualifications and work experience.

I agree Riz. I have already asked for a new job description. I applied for this job le along with the one I was actually interviewed for so I am not that worried about having the necessary skill set. The jobs with this le currently posted are all in DH with an engineering twist so I am interested in seeing what this one in RT has in store for me.

TrainingProf I am in the same situation as you. I received offer for different job (same as you) and in same location. It was not the job I was interviewing for. Maybe we can discuss offline. My email is waderandca@gmail.com.

OK. So I've finally gotten around to putting the numerous dates involved in our timeline. As you can see, ours was one of the more lengthy processes due to timing (process started during the month of Ramadan last year) and was impacted by the Eid holidays as well as the Christmas season here in North America. Add to that a change in the group I will be working for and it will be close to a year from initial contact to departure.

Quick update and some advise (duh). I accepted the offer via email and I got the FedEx packet the day after my email offer package. BTW, I was never asked to submit my current pay stubs and the base in the offer exceeded the salary I put on the application.
The FedEx packet contained the same information as the email (offer letter, benefits worksheet, salary worksheet) as well as the BI and Medical paperwork. Portions of the packet have to be turned around within seven days but other pieces like the bulk of the BI and Medical can be turned around later as they must expect that you may need to perform a paper chase like I did. They provided two separate FedEx envelopes to facilitate this split.
Because my offer letter mentioned a 45 day reporting window (for bach. status), I asked about a timeline. The recruiter indicated that once ASC gets the paperwork back it will take about four weeks for the BI and two weeks for the medical. I am assuming these will happen concurrently. The 45 days is a "highly flexible" window to give both the Saudi department and the applicant something to plan to. Additional time could be given to "wrap up" affairs at home prior to departure. Family status applicants can expect a 90 day window.
My advise to those who are still waiting for offers: make sure you actually can lay hands on all the necessary documents you will need. I thought I had everything, but got a few surprises. These include (1) marriage and/or birth certificates for dependents regardless of if they are going with you or not as they will be covered by health insurance. (2) education documentation to include BOTH transcripts and diplomas. I am not sure why they would want a copy of the diploma when they have a transcript but that is they way it is listed. (3) employment records i.e. pay stubs, contracts, names, addresses, departments, phone numbers etc. going back at least 7 years. It is my understanding that the more actual documentation you can provide, the less time and effort the BI will take.
I am grateful that the process so far seems to be moving along quickly. I cannot imagine the faith and patience some of the folks like Thyssenkrupp and gbhatia had to have to go six months to almost a year.

Well it's official (sort of ). We just got word today that the contingencies have cleared and the visas issued ! . Still don't have it in writing but that should be sent to us within the next day or two. Our departure date has been set for May 2nd which is a Wednesday with arrival in Dhahran on the 3rd. I'm just wondering if its normal to arrive on a Thursday evening ? Are the facilities & commissary etc open on Friday ? If not, should we push to arrive so the next day is a weekday ? The movers are coming tomorrow to do the initial assessment . I've updated my timeline to reflect the new info. 1. Telephone Introduction through Industry Contact : May 5th 2012 2.
