Hi all,
I have found a lot of information on this forum, it's been very useful! Still I have a few questions which I hope might be answered here.
My husband was in Saudi Arabia for work a few months ago as part of a project for which the firm that he is employed with is hired by Saudi Aramco. During one of the meetings he was asked if he would be interested to work directly for Saudi Aramco. A job interview was even arranged with one of the managers right away! This manager told him that Aramco was very interested in employing my husband and he even asked my husband what he needed to do to convince him to move to KSA and work for Aramco. So when my husband came home we discussed this and we came to the conclusion that we would love to move to KSA and start this adventure. We are both familiar with the Middle East, I have lived and worked there as well, so we would both be very much ok with moving to KSA. So we've let them know our positive answer, my husband's cv was sent with several recommendations from Aramco-employees to the department that hires new people, but so far we didn't have any reaction at all. This was several months ago. I know that things move slowly in KSA and that we should be patient, but I would still like to ask you: should we take the initial job offer seriously? We haven't heard from the hiring department for several months, does this mean that they're not interested after all? Should we try to contact them again? Should we still have hope that my husband might be hired?
Thank you for your help! Robin

Perfectly normal. The department may want you, but there's a lot of red tape to get through before they will talk to you about the job. Carry on as usual. It may be awhile, but you will probably hear something eventually. I've known it to take over a year for a few. If you want to keep in touch with someone to let them know you are interested, do so at reasonable intervals.

Hi vpainter,
Thanks for your fast reply, and good to hear that this is perfectly normal. We will carry on as we do now and keep in touch with the department to let them know we are interested. Thanks! Robin

As VP said, there is a LOT of 'red tape' within the company. The manager may very well intend on hiring your husband, but there's a lot of hurdles to jump from other departments along the way.
Aramco called me up in early December 2010 and offered me a job, I didnt hear from then again until late Feb 2011, and didnt arrive here until July of 2011. It's a loooong slow process.
