o all,
Now that we are two weeks away from the greatest move of our lives to embark in an unprecedented quest of exploration and acclimatization; I have some questions regarding the activities available for kids and adults at DH camp..so here goes:
1. My eldest daughter (7) s a very active person. She has been training for a while now horseback riding, martial arts, swimming and skating and she is always asking me all sorts of questions about that. My question is: how can she join the equestrian club? Is there a martial arts, swimming, skating classes for kids? Is there a recreational committee that look after these issues? 2. My wife is a pretty active person as well, and she is interested in joining some clubs and volunteer here and there… what are the available options? 3. What are the hidden gems that we (the new recruits) don’t know about and you (the veterans) can enlighten us about?
Thanx a lot, and waiting your answers.

1) You can join the Dhahran Arabian Horse Association when you arrive as an Associate member, meaning you do not own a horse. You can join as a family which would cover your daughter. You would then buy a horse for her, or find someone willing to allow her to take lessons on their horse.
There is a Karate Club that she can take lessons with. There is a Kuntaw Martial Arts Group of Dhahran and a Dhahran Tae Kwon Do Group, Dhahran Tai Chi Group - all these give lessons.
There is a Dhahran Youth Swim League.
There is an ice skating rink in the Al Rashid Mall and the Oasis Compound, she might get lessons at one of these. I don't know of a roller skating rink.
There is a very active Girls Scouts in DHA.
Each of these are Self-Directed Groups through Recreation. You can pick up a contact list for these in Community Services Office in the Al Majamma Building. There may be a list in the information packet that will be in your home upon arrival.
2) Your wife will have lots of clubs to volunteer and participate in: Women's Group, Art Group, Exercise Groups, Quilting Group, Bridge Group, Sports Groups, Garden Group, Women's Exchange, Theater Group and many others. She will have plenty to choose from and will have to be able to say no, so they don't all take over all her time.
3) You can be as involved individually and as a family as you'd like. Dad, don't work overtime. Its not expected unless you do it. So make it an exception not a rule. There are a few jobs with overtime, but most go home at 4pm. Go home! spend time with your family and friends.
