Hi there, we will (hopefully) be joining the community soon and have some follow up questions to the "stuff to bring" list. Fans - how many are recommended for a 3 bedroom house? Is there a spot for them in the ceiling? (we used to live in Dubai, and there wasn't!) Microwave- can we do an undercounter or countertop? Landmower- bring or hire? Thanks!

Fans, one for each bedroom, and they replace the light fixture with it, so bring a fan with a light fixture. Some people have put one in their living room. There is not a place already wired for one, but you can hire an electrician and carpenter to do it for you.
microwave, most everyone has a counter top one. Most kitchens can possibly use an under the counter one, but when my friend's house was renovated her cabinets were built back in lower and her microwave now sits in the breakfast room. Bummer! not the usual though.

Yes, the houses are all air conditioned. But for those of us who have come from a place where we had ceiling fans, we are used to the constant circulation of air in our living rooms, bedrooms and sometimes dining rooms.
So bringing a fan is important to us.
Do you need one? No, unless you just want one. Most people do not have fans. Texans love fans.

Personally, I would find the ceiling fans too low and a potential hazard for curious acrobatic kids if placed in the bedrooms. We do use our box fans from time to time in the house, just to circulate some fresh air. We even use them on our patio when it's warmer. The air conditioning is very effective here.
I'm modifying this comment: If you plan to put bunk beds in your children's rooms, based on my own experience with ceilings the same height as our Aramco townhouse, be really careful about ceiling fans. You'll want to be sure they can't jump off their beds or other furniture and try swinging around on them, or hanging toys on them. Just sayin'!

If you already own fans and Aramco is paying to ship your stuff, why pay for it twice if you think you're going to want one? Also, the issue of 110v electrical items, as you've likely read elsewhere in the forum. The items for sale in KSA are 220v, and the camps are 110v.

We have a townhouse, the bedroom ceilings are tall enough for flush against the ceiling fans, ours actually have about a 2 inch drop down with light kits. Our boys were 5'10" and 6'2". The fans were not a problem for their height. But not all houses are the same with the same ceiling heights. Someone used to having ceiling fans won't have a problem.

The upstairs bedroom gets really hot in the summer and my wife usually likes to have a fan on for circulation during those days. Finding a 110v fan is an adventure so if you have 110v fans, bring it.
