Does anyone know the "real" status for the sweet water project? One guy said the project got cancelled and another said only the Hills will get it. Any update is greatly appreciated.

 Funny, Twofeets!
Maybe now's a good time to find out what that Rumour Control number does on the phone list, LOL.
BTW, separate yet related update on utilities in DH. I called to request installation of 220V outlets. Was told the program is on hold until further notice. Added our house to the sizable wait list. Was advised that, once the program resumes, we'll be allowed two-220v outlets in the kitchen. FYI.

If/when I get there, I should know about the utilities projects. Then you all will have a well informed insider about utilities on this forum;)

This is mentioned in the minutes of at least the last two Town Hall meetings held in Dhahran. What is interesting is that in the earlier meeting, it was stated that funding should be approved in the following year but next year when the same question was asked, the answer (as I recall) was something to the effect that a final decision had not been taken on whether to proceed or not.
Several years ago, I was told in an official reply from Dhahran Utilities Dept that any sweet water project would depend on a proposed upgrade of the water treatment facilities going ahead first, a project that also had not been approved at that time. I am not aware of whether this upgrade ever took place.

In DHA they have been replacing water lines in preparation for it. But we've been hearing the rumor of sweeer throughout the houses for years. Don't hold your breathe, but may happen!
The Hills is ready for it. They've been working on Main Camp lines. But even when finished, doesn't mean they'll turn it on.
