antemareundae and cantwait2 It's also worth checking if the vehicle model you have is widely used in KSA. I have Toyota Sienna and I have been told by a contact in Dhahran not to bring it along as there are not many Sienna in KSA. The parts, maintenance and resale becomes an issue with not so common models. I am also from Alberta and will likely move sometime in August.

Cantwait2,
No one has probably answered because it changes constantly. So, it will be a gamble to get it in with tinted windows. The front window cannot be tinted at all. The side windows might make it in if the tint is not dark, could the security officer see inside the car when you drive up to them?
When we first came it was allowed, then it was a couple of years for it not being allowed, everyone was having to remove it or change their windows. Then it was allowed again for 3 or 4 years and people put it right back on and vehicles had tinted windows, then not allowed and removal occurred and that is where we are right now as far as I know.

Has anyone shipped their car containerized and allowed personal effects in the car? Any shippers to avoid? (Feel free to do so in private message.). Thanks!

We have a jeep also, and occasionally have to bring in parts from the U.S. They carry parts at the dealers, but sometimes they are waiting longer getting them in than it takes for us to bring them back on a trip out.
Age is good, must also have a clear le on your jeep.

You can check the KSA Customs website for guidance. I recall five years old was the age limit for importing vehicle, but I can't find a reference for that now. www.customs.gov.sa/CustomsNew/ru ... oms%20Duty

A vehicle shipped to KSA must be under 5 years old and have a clear le.

I am also going through the process of shipping a vehicle to Saudi. All but one shipper told me my 2009 Honda Odyssey was fine to ship-a vehicle being imported to Saudi cannot be over five years old. I was told I could even ship it in 2014 as it would be five years old, not over. I'll find out shortly when I ship it!

I have a chip in my windshield and I read the vehicle can't have any noticeable damage. This chip was caused by a rock fment a year ago. It's about 1 inch in diameter and not deep at all, but you see it since it's at the front.
Any comments welcomed. Ante.

I would VERY strongly discoue the use of Affordable Freight to ship your car here, or anywhere. Their service was terrible, we were out thousands of dollars for nothing, and the process turned into an absolute nightmare.
We contracted them to ship our car from Ontario to Dammam, Saudi Arabia, with the understanding it would arrive before the end of the year (over 3 months at that point). Affordable Freight knew that this was a necessity, as if it arrived the following year, it would be too old under Saudi import regulations. They assured us it could be done without a problem, telling me it would be there in six weeks. From there, it was one frustration after another. The arrival date kept getting later and later until it was into the new year. We heard excuses about issues leaving the port in Halifax, how it just missed the boat in Antwerp, etc. It got to the point where they said they could get it to Jeddah. I told them this was unacceptable, as not only had we agreed and paid for Dammam, Jeddah was on the other side of the country, some 1400 km's away. We had no way of clearing it through customs and getting it to Dhahran.
Now into 2014, we were stuck with a car that was sitting in Antwerp that was ineligible for entry into Saudi Arabia. Affordable Freight suggested that we take our chances and auction it off in Belgium, as they would not refund any of our money OR pay to return the car to Canada. After much argument, they finally agreed to pay to return it to the Halifax port, but that was it. The car was originally picked up in Ontario, but they would not return it there. Once again, we were stuck with a car that had no plates, could not be insured, and no car dealer in Halifax was interested in because of the weird story, understandably. We had to pay nearly $1000 dollars again to have the car transported back to Ontario, where luckily we had relatives who could sell it for us.
That is the highly condensed, cliffs-notes version of this saga. It was 100x more frustrating than I could ever convey.
Anyone wanting more information is welcome to message me. I would strongly, STRONGLY advise against using their services.
