Cost to Ship SUV

Ok, would like to leave some kind of legacy here as reciprocation. For future reference, here’s what it’s costing me in USD to ship a Honda Pilot from Houston to Dhahran in April 2010:
$1,873 shipping (Houston to Dammam). This includes them picking it up from my house (versus me driving it to the port).
$1,110 [whew!] customs clearance and transfer from Dammam to Dhahran. This includes transporting the vehicle from Dammam to me in Dhahran, and is broken down as follows:
SR USD
350 $93 endorsement charges
200 $53 D/O fee
750 $200 customs clearance fee
100 $27 duty
150 $40 translation fee
105 $28 port fee
100 $27 port labor charges
360 $96 customs inspection fee
100 $27 scanning fee
350 $93 transfer fee (from port to SASO)
550 $147 SASO registration
150 $40 SASO labor
150 $40 transfer fee (from SASO to ABSA)
150 $40 terminal handling fee
350 $93 delivery fee
250 $67 handling and service charges
4,165 $1,110 Total
They pick up my vehicle on April 12 and estimate (with many caveats) arrival in Dammam May 25. I’m told 5 business days for customs clearance if everything is smooth.bluefish

Here's who I'm using for the customs clearance agent:
Al-Barrak Shipping Agencies Co. Ltd,
Al-Barrak Building, Najd Street, Al-Mazrouiah,
P.O.Box 3682, Dammam 31481,
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Tel : +966-3-8333566 Ext: 178
Fax : +966-3-8333566 Ext: 180
Cell: +966-55-5212357
E-Mail:
arif@albarrak.comWeb :
www.albarrak-group.comI also got a couple of recommendations from the Logistics Advisor at ASC:
Namma Cargo, contact: Tajuddin Khan, Phone: 966-3-867-2222 or
tajuddin@nammacargo.comCBE (Commercial Business Establishment), Contact: Faheem, Phone: 966-3-834-0819 or
faheem@cbemovers.comOne correction to my earlier post regarding duty. Duty is apparently paid as a percentage of the value of your vehicle when it comes into Dammam. Al-Barrak tells me this is 5%, so duty in my case would be on the order of about $1,200 (ow!). I've subsequently requested quotes from the two agents recommended by ASC to verify this, but at least one other guy I know in Dhahran said this is about what he paid for the duty.
Re: Advice on two relatively new cars...This website is still good and they can give you a quote for shipping your cars from your state to KSA.

I am using Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS) to ship my car from New Jersey to SA. Best compeive quote including insurance with no deductible. In Damman I am using Namma Cargo Services Co. Ltd. (
kaleem@nammacargo.com) to clear the car through customs ...
Better try other shippersby rotary on Mon Oct 22, 2007 2:22 pm
That sounds high to me for shipping. better try:
Carex Shipping: Andy +1-888-830-1370
I used this company to ship a motorcycle. I used another company to ship a SUV and it was US$1850
Tax is about 5%
There are some guys who do the paperwork on the side for car imports so you do not have any hassel.
Here's an answer that was previously posted by another expat: (there are other shippers as well)

Here's another previous post on car shipping:
We've shipped 3 vehicles to Saudi. Only problem we had was that the fog lights and a CD player disappeared from one truck so I would remove as much as possible beforehand. Otherwise everything else was great - no damage and not too expensive. International shipper arranged to collect vehicle from the dealer we bought them from. It's also good to have a Saudi friend to take with you when you collect the car in Dammam. Cost was in the $2,000 range total.

Hi
Suggest u contact DAS Auto Shipping. Use a search engine to find them. I shipped a Ford Escape from New Jersey to saudi. It was about US$1875
Now to get that vehicle to a port will cost about US$650.This is all "about". Check it out with DAS. When I bought a caron Ebay I bought close to the dock so overland transit would be cheap.
I have heard but cannot confirm that tax is 12% but there will be clearing cost on top of that plus the customs here puts the value they want on the vehicle. this is what I am told.
Hope this helps.

o,
We came from the midwest and below is what we were quoted to ship a vehicle here in a container. This quote is for being picked up at our home and delivered to the port here. You would not have to have anything done to your car as far as conversion. There is unleaded gasoline here. The first response was obviously outdated by quite a few years. This is what it costs you to get you here. They said approximately 28 days to get here, but a possibility of 21 days. You do have to have a clear and free le to bring a vehicle here though and you will have to pay fee's at the port here. That depends on the value of your vehicle.
I hope this helps!
