Hi Everyone,
I hope someone can provide advice. We are in the midst of the new employee process and seem to be in a bit of a unique situation. My husband was hired through the North American recruitment program as we are Canadian citizens. However, we live in Dubai. To add to the complication, we are on summer holidays in Canada.
The issue is the Saudi visa application. They need our passports and will keep them for 45 days. We still have to go to the Houston orientation (and need our passports). We have to cancel our UAE visa before applying for our Saudi visa but need to do this in Dubai, break our lease, move are things etc. Of course, we can't do anything until we get the green light on our BI and medicals. SA wants my husband to start in August, the kids need to go to school but we can't go anywhere without our passports. Help!
We did ask our relo advisor but he seems very junior and had no suggestions for us. I'm hoping someone else has been in a similar situation and has a good suggestion for us.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

I would recommend keeping your passport until you are able to turn it in after you've been approved with your BI and medical. Attend orientation, but until the BI and medical are approved, I wouldn't cancel your lease, or do anything in your present life that would change things if for some reason you don't get approvals. Aramco will work with you on your arrival date. So plan out all the things you need to accomplish prior to turning in your passports and communicate this to Aramco. They know you cannot turn in your passport for visas prior to all approvals.
Kids start to school here late all the time. If you haven't gotten approvals start them where you are now. The kids also have to be approved to attend the Aramco schools. You shouldn't do anything until you have that approval also.

if you are based in Dubai, then Aramco can (and should) send your visa pickup letter to Saudi Embassy in UAE. there is no need to go all the way to Canada/Houston for visa process. Orientation can be done via VideoCon etc also. I know canadians who moved from UAE to Kingdom and got their visas stamped etc from within UAE, though the process is a bit long.
Good Luck, Mjkr

Thanks for your replies. The other piece I should have mentioned is that my husband already has a Saudi visitor visa. By having this, is there any way he/we could avoid the 45 day waiting period? Could he do the iqama process internally? We have to cancel our UAE visas to apply for the Saudi residency visa. This means the kids won't be able to go to school in Dubai while we wait. We could come back to Canada but of course, we need our passports : )

We're going through the same process now can you update on what you ended up having to do? We're you able to do it all in the UAE?
