it is worth noting the results of a 10-year study conducted by King Fahad National Guard Hospital (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) in which 434 cases of scorpion sting syndrome were observed. In that study, 74% of patients had pain with no other evidence of toxicity. The remaining 26% displayed signs of mild toxicity, which basically consisted of a moderate rise in blood pressure. No fatalities occurred.

• Do not put your hands under items lying on the ground without first inspecting to insure that there are no hiding scorpions under them.
• When camping, carefully shake out clothes and shoes that have been left outside on the ground before putting them on.
• Do not walk barefoot outdoors at night as this is when scorpions are most active.
• Seek medical help when stung.
