Aramex for getting mail sent to/from KSA
by ExerciseMad on Thu Jan 07, 2010 1:40 pm
I heard that you can use Aramex for getting mail to your Dhahran mailbox etc? Does it also allow you to send to UK & US?
I checked out their website (www.aramex.com) but could not immediately find anything for small-fry or lightweight letter bundles etc.
Does anyone have a link or info they can point me to? I bet vpainter or stmayo will know the answer to this
Also, has anyone had unreliability from or any other complaints about Aramex service?
Many thankerciseMad

Aramex is used by folks in Dhahran. DHL is used pretty frequently at RT for priority mail to/from the US, although I don't know if Aramex comes to RT.

We use Aramex, they charge you a initial one-time fee and provide you with two PO box forwarding addresses, one in NYC and one in the UK, they will forward parcels as they arrive to your KSA address. They are not good with letter since they don't bundle them, for that you need something like www.myUS.com. But the good thing about Aramex is that they don't have a monthly fee and their shipping charges are lower than other major shippers, their minimum for up to one pound in weight is SR 60.TheDude

Aramex is quite good. I use them for all my Amazon purchases (Blu-Rays, books etc). As mentioned by other users, they charge you a lifetime membership fee of USD35 and all shipments after that will be based on the scales below
1st pound - SAR65
next 1lb - SAR35
I got my shipment last week (4lb) and paid SAR170 for it which was not too bad.azraeil

I like Aramex a lot, however as with everything in life, its not a perfect system, for one, the street address in NY they give you is also used by 100s if not 1000s of others and as such there is a good chance of losing a package, which has happened to me only once in 4 years and it was a expensive item and Aramex only paid up some 10% of its original cost. Also, there is no personalized service, if you receive a package at your NYC forwarding address that you know needs to go back to its sender, there is no way to do this, you will end up paying for shipping twice for something that could have been returned for no cost (Amazon stuff for example).TheDude

Their services can be better. I'd be willing to pay a lot more for a more personal service from Aramex but as it is, I can't really complain much. Amazon sent 2 packages (for 1 order .. which is annoying) and it arrived to Aramex 20 minutes apart but they still charge me for 2 separate package (which only makes 30 riyal difference so I'm not that dissapointed). I wish we can tell Aramex not to send those items separately, rather, we can tell them that we will be receiving 2 packages so "wait for both of them to arrive before shipping it out" or something like that.
I hear DHL also offers something similar to Aramex Shop & Ship but I have not check out the rates etc.azraeil

Saudi post also has a similar service. I've never tried it, so I don't know how reliable it is.

I've registered for DHL Easyshop. It's similar to Aramex's Shop & Ship. It only gives you a US address though but the registration fees are cheaper at USD27. The shipping charges are quite okay as well as it goes by KG instead of per Lb. The address given is in Ohio so you will save on sales tax (Amazon will charge sales tax for Aramex since the address is in New York)azraeil

I have used MyUS for 12+ years now. They are professional, provide personal service and have never lost anything of mine. They are expensive, however, their process saves money on the backend which both makes up for the cost and simplifies the process. Main benefits:
- Combine shipments. They repackage many boxes received into larger shipping boxes to optimize DHL shipping cost
- New Invoice. They create a new shipping invoice for the combined box lowering the retail prices on the original invoices by 25%. This is a major savings on Saudi Customs charges (it is appropriate because they are technically a wholesaler so they adjust the stated retail prioces you paid to reflect an estimated wholesale selling price). This is done automatically after you make the initial settings in your shipping preferences.
- Website tracking. Your online account shows you each shipment as it is received by them organized by seller with attached scans of each package's packing list / invoice documents. You can select to ship part or all packages immediately or wait for a prescheduled automatic shipping frequency (weekly, monthly, etc)
- They have on-line chat and I get fast service via chat to ask questions and resolve issues on shipments or if I have a special request - such as hold a particular package longer because something else is arriving in so and so days...
They give you a dedicated "suite number" for a street address, not a P.O. box. They also have a telephone number you can list at the office for incomming shippers - many shippers will not ship to a P.O. Box.

I used to be with myus.com for a long time, they have excellent service and rates, only thing missing was that they don't have the letter scanning facility, now I am with another company that scans and sends me pdf files of all my letters, then I decide if to use the pdf file as my copy or have them ship the original.TheDude
