Hi all...as I mentioned in a previous post. I've received an offer from SA, and I am currently researching the different aspects of living there.
My wife and I have two children. A 3-1/2 year old girl and an 11mth old boy. My wife currently works and the kids go to a pre-school / nursery during the day.
On the plus side my wife would be allowed to stay at home and be with the kids, but at the same time, she would want some alone time to retain her sanity (dealing with two little kids day in day out can be draining).
I saw where there are a couple of informal nurseries around the camp but the timing may be limited. We'll definety be seaching the forums for more info on this.
Can some of the wives/mothers in the forum describe a typical day in Ras Tanura? For those of you with young kids, how you manage this / describe if you get personnal time to do what you want to do. What do you do with your free time. What activities etc.
Also state how was the change from being a working career person to being at home with more free time.
Trying to get a feel for how my wife will adapt and if she will be happy. Thanks.

o
I do not have young children here but can answer everything that you have written only by PM but we cannot answer how your wife would be happy here no one can - everyone is different some women manage to give up their careers and others don't as with child care it is available here at a cost.

I have been here for 9 months with my husband and now 17 month old son. It is great! We really love living here. There are so many children to set up play dates with. Tons of parks to go to. Walking and playing on the beach is so fun. Last weekend we had a caravan of cars and went out to the desert and dug up sand roses. The weekend before, we went to Hofou and walked through some neat caves. This time if year is perfect for outdoor activities, so if you have kids, you will be very busy. When it is just me I meet gals for coffee, we watch our favorite TV shows, I go workout, meet with the garden club, work in my garden, plan vacations, and now I am in school online, so that keeps me really busy. It is what you make it here. So much social stuff to do! My advice would be to get out there and say hi to everyone you meet. I have made amazing friends by saying hi on the beach path. Everyone has been new at some point, and they want to meet new people too!
