I have a question, please, for US ExPats working/living in Dhahran. I am wondering whether couples from USA (with no children) living at Dhahran Camp find the Commodities and Services Allowance to be: a) Insufficient ? b) About Right ? c) Overly Generous ? My wife and I are somewhat frugal and we currently reside in the Houston, Texas area. We are trying to understand the cost-of-living difference to expect in Dhahran.
Thanks!

I cant speak for Dh, but Ras Tanura's prices are similar, and for us between the bonuses, the lack of taxes, etc we come out way ahead each month.
My 'base' salary isnt much more than I was making in the US, but when you figure in housing costs only $450/month (including utilities), insurance is a lot cheaper, no taxes (Huge), the bonuses, etc our actual 'extra' money has tripled.

More than sufficient. You will find that the day to day cost of living is much, much lower than Houston AND in addition due to nothing really to buy there is nothing to spend money on.
(something we got reminded of when we arrived in Houston this morning, had a 100 SAR <apiece> breakfast RIGHT over by Baybrook mall with all that brand new stuff to buy just laying around for the picking LOL.......)

The biggest expense is groceries and eating out, but even that is comparable to Houston.

Thank you all, for your replies. It's nice to see so much consistency between the replies.
Do any other US Ex-Pats on the board have different experiences with respect to the adequacy of the C&S Allowance?
Thank you,
