WARNING SCAMMING OF CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS IN KHOBAR
by Carolina » Thu Aug 18, 2011 6:31 am
o to you all
Well we have sad tale to tell.
The last time I used my Saudi debit/master card was at Lu Lus in Khobar over one week ago for a huge shop something I do once every 4 or 6 weeks.
Yesterday my husband called to ask if I had made huge money transfers to an international account in Bahrain of course the answer was a FIRM NO.
Our bank account here at the Saudi bank in RT has been completely cleaned out my husband phoned the special bank security number last night first time it took us one hour to get through then they put us on to another contact number to cut a very long story short we got no where! they were simply not interested! so hopefully at 9 am at the bank this morning my husband will be able to get them to help.
When my husband explained this to another women in RT she too around about the same time also shopped at Lu Lus and the same problem has happened but when she saw the money coming out of her account she went and took the rest out.
This is far too much of a coincidence and I would urge you all to check your bank accounts asap - we are trying to build up a case here - luckily I still have the receipt for Lu Lus with the exact time this scam occured and who we think is responsible for scamming our card - I do remember when they took my card it seemed to take a long time for my payment to go through!!! so I have a note of the person that served us etc etc - of course we will phone Lu Lus today but doubt if we will get anywhere but this is FRAUD and the bank should take this seriously.
I have also asked my husband to day to contact Aramco security - worth a try - anything is worth a try to stop this kind of fraud.
So our simple solution will be to pay everything by cash - no more cards - we are due to go on vacation October and will not be using any credit cards etc just cash.
It is very worrying that our Saudi bank could not have cared less on the phone last night - when it was obvious this fraud had taken place our bank in the UK would have gone into action and would by now be investigating the fraud.
We spoke to a friend of ours and something similar happened to him last year he had 34,000 SAR stolen from his account and his Saudi bank here did not help in anyway etc - this is very worrying situation.
If the same in the past few weeks has happened to any of you could you please kindly e-mail me on : carolinecollen@yahoo.co.uk please as this needs to be addressed or any out of you that have been through this awful experience to advise please.
Thank you so much
Kind Regards
Carolina

Have heard similar stories. This problem would seem rife. My advice would be;
1. Only use cash
2. Minimise use of Saudi based banks - if my experience of Saudi Hollandi is anything to go by
3. Don't use Saudi Credit cards - you have no protection
4. Use UK, US (or other nation with credible consumer protection laws) based credit cards which cover expenditure, theft, etc abroad
