It is very easy and fast to get e-gate card. No need for application or photo. It is just necessary to visit General Directorate of Passport located in the 2nd floor of passengers area. After check-in completion enter passengers area but do not go to immigration desks. Turn left and go to 2nd floor where General Directorate of Passport is located. Enter captain's office and show him passport with multi entry visa. Then he will give you a card that needs to be activated only the first time. Proceed to immigration control area and access e-gate (last lane on the left). Lay the e-card on the e-reader and pass the first gate. Follow the instructions on the screen of the e-gate imputting Iqama number and scanning fingertips (one finger is enough). Take the print out of the receipt and the second gate will open too.

That is fabulous news! I went to the airport a while ago (at the General Directorate of Passports like you) but we could not figure out the process; the individual was very helpful but could not get a straight answer from the people who handled the process itself ... The important questions though: 1) Did you do this at a time you flew, or did you make a special trip to get the eGate card? 2) Are there any hour restrictions for this process if it must be done at the time of the flight? As much information about timing and such would be a great help to many people! Congratulations on the eGate card

Thanks for sharing such detailed instructions. I'm sure many expats will appreciate this. Question: does the e-Gate Card expire when the Iqama or multiple exit/entry visa expires? In other words, do you have to go through this process each time the Iqama renewal is up?

derekgHi Derek, how are you? Glad to be helpful as you many times for me. 1) Yes, I did at the time I flew. I don't think you can arrange for a special trip to gate e-gate card. In fact you have to access passengers area, where General Directorate of Passport is located. Proceed to the captain's office and he will give you an enevelope containing the e-gate card (no need for application or photo). 2) Honestly, I don't know about hours restrictions. I flew in the afternoon to Dubai. I don't know if there is someboby eligible to release e-card while you fly in the night. Only one concern... Coming back from Dubai we passed through a different immigration area (not the main one) and there was no electronic gate. In the outbound flight to Dubai, I skipped the queue passing through e-gate. Do not forget to take the receipt's print out when you pass through e-gate. @hadia This is a very good question but I'm not able to answer. I think if Iqama number reamains the same you should not be in need to replace your e-gate. But honestly I'm not sure and I don't know. Anyhow in case e-gate card does not work you can queue at conventional immigration desks. hope you will find this helpful

We got e-gate cards about two weeks ago. The guy at the Captain's office was very rude and told us they only get 20 per day and they were all finished. Same response from all the other guys in the immigration area. I sent my wife to ask someone else and they told us to go back out and go downstairs to another office (Ministry of Interrior I think?) on the first floor. No questions asked, we got e-gate cards in under 30 seconds. One gate was working and we got through in 15 minutes but my 2 year old daughter's fingerprints were not in the system so the gaurd took her passport and got it stamped for us.
The gate only lets one person in at a time so I guess you have to get a gaurd to stamp it if you have kids. Also, make sure you write your name on the back as soon as you get it, otherwise it's easy to mix up the cards among family members.
