First, thanks to all thoughtful posters. This board is great.
I attended the Feb 2012 Talent Quest in Houston. I did not have an interview scheduled, but I stuck it out and got squeezed in for an interview at the end of the day. I was told that the hiring group (that interviewed me) will return to KSA in two weeks and make their decisions starting then. I don't want to state what department, but it was not engineering, medical, or finance.
I have been on a sea of hope since then, and it's only the 3rd day since. Patience is the key, yes, and I will get plenty of practice at that, even if i do get to the next stage I'm in my mid thirties, so I've been through this before with other interviews at awesome companies where I didn't get an offer.
But getting to my questions... While I don't expect anybody to share inside knowledge even if they know it, I was wondering if anybody could share their viewpoints on my various promptings for paranoia:
1. I did not get any contact info from the interviewers. It being the end of a long day, they seemed in a hurry to be done. Does not getting their info spell disaster, or is that pretty standard for a job fair with so many interviews?
2. I noticed some people in the orientation (waiting) room were told to fill out applications (I suspect it was after being interviewed, but I could be wrong). Am I being paranoid in thinking that my chances are not good because I was not made to complete an application? (They did have several copies of my resume which included comments by one of the interviewers)
3. How do you find out the the second interview or offer is being made? Does it come through postal mail, or email? I have seen some posters say they got a phone call stating it's in the (snail) mail. Is that typical? If so, I'll stop refreshing my inbox every 20 minutes.
4. I know you all can't state SAMSO policies or criteria, but do you ever see any new hires that are overweight? (I have good levels on cholesterol and blood glucose, and my blood pressure is usual in normal range. I just happen bigger than I should be (let's just say 60-80 lbs male), some of which I think I could easily shed while in Dhahran, given the accessibility to exercise (I love weight training and cardio and feeling great!). I don't take or require any medications, only some inexpensive seasonal allergy treatment occasionally, due to being in Houston.) In spite of my positives, should I just quit even thinking that have any possibility of passing the medical review based on my body mass index?
5. Is getting hired while having four or five young children very common? I have four, three of which are not even in school yet. We would love to raise them in Dhahran while I reshape my career and acquire new skills there. (We could home school if school entry or cost is an issue.)
Sorry for the long post. I hope some of the above might get answers that would be helpful to other hopefuls.
