Hi, I'm a newcomer and would appreciate any info on the following. I'm guessing there's not much swell on the Saudi coastline for surfing, is it worth bringing my surfboard?! What about the water park in Jeddah, has anyone been? It has a surf simulator. Also is it easy enough to get inner bike tubes in the Eastern Province (or are there any decent bike shops that might have a website)? Or should I just stock up and bring as much with me as I can... Thanks in advance.

I know you're asking about adult bikes, and there's much that's been mentioned in this forum about bike shops if you Google it, but here's something I recently learned about kids' bikes that might be of interest to new hires packing up for relocation.
We have a small bike for our young son, bought in the US. Needed to replace a tire tube. Took his bike to the bike shop just outside the main gate and learned that those are not a size you can find anywhere here. Not being a bike techie, I went online and ordered what I thought were the correct size tubes, got extras. Took three weeks, but got them. Wrong size. For people packing kids' bikes for sea shipments, especially if you're not big into bike mechanics, it might be wise to have a bike shop at home help you select extra tire tubes to bring along.

I would recommend bringing extra tubes, a tire, and gear and brake cables for your first time here, enough to get you by until your first repat home. By first repat you will know what is available and what is not, and what it is you need to bring.
Hadia, if you need help figuring out your tube size, let me know, I can help you with that. What about a patch kit to do the repair to get the bike going? I can also help with that. (I was a bike mechanic in a previous life.)

I moved to RT in July, and I wish I had brought my long board.
There's rarely enough swell to surf, but the water is crystal clear and there's a lot of days It would be nice just to paddle out and relax. Here in RT I have seen a few days with enough bump to ride with a long longboard, but those are very windy days, nothing clean, and still only knee high. The biggest Ive seen is thigh high, but most days are just flat.

I agree with the others about bringing extra items for your bikes. Thay way you know you have it and you don't have to go out searching. Like someone said, after a while you will learn your way around and find out who, if anybody, has replacement items. As far as surfing... not much at all here, BUT keep in mind where you are. You will be able to travel to some exotic places a lot easier from here than the US (if that's where you're coming from) and it would be a great experience to have your board with you. I used to surf a loooooong time ago and wish I still did because I would surely be doing it all over the world.

Im might just buy one of those blue foam longboards....about 250$ and put it into my shipment. That and some snorkelling gear, flippers, gogles etc and fishing gear.
A windsurfer would be good..... 8)
