Hi! My husband and I recently had an interview that seemed to go well. We were interviewed for teaching positions, and were told we would be hearing back sometime during the first week of March. If hired, when are we scheduled to be at the compound? We travel every summer and just in case, want to buy our tickets for our vacation with some tenative dates in mind. Thank you!

Well, I was interviewed and given an offer in December, just before Christmas ( teaching at ITC in RT). I filled in all the paperwork over the new year break and returned it to the recruiter first week of January. I dont expect to hear from them until the background check is completed, probably sometime this month.... Then I go for the visa and visa medical.... so all up I am expecting an Aprill start...This could d out for a month or more longer than I expect and Im in no hurry at the moment...especially with treatingning Iran......

Thanks for your reply Uman. So you are anticipating starting at the end of the school year? We would be starting for the beginning of the 2012 school year; we would have to finish our exisitng contracts. Congrats on the job! We are still keeping our fingers crossed and hoping the second interviews go well! It sounds like we had different interviewing situations.... Good luck with all the rest of the paperwork.

Guerita, are you talking about teaching children or adults? I don't know about RT, but in DH, the Industrial Training Center (ITC) that Uman mentioned has classes for adults going on constantly, year-round. It's not on an academic calendar like the children's schools. Teachers for the children's schools seem to be back in camp about a week or so before school starts to get their classrooms set up, but perhaps an actual classroom teacher will jump in here with a comment on that. I believe school begins on September 1 this year -- about a week earlier than last year.
This year, Ramadan is from mid-July through mid-August. That would play a role in the timing of your arrival, from Aramco's perspective. However, that may be putting the cart before the horse. The first order of business is whether or not you receive offer letters. Those letters will give you an in-Kingdom date. Based on that date, you will likely find that your summer plans need to be flexible, since you would quickly get absorbed in the lengthy process of the Aramco hiring flow. You will have to fill out a vast number of forms, go through blood/x-ray labs, orientation, background and health checks, ensure school space for kids, and other contingencies. If all of that moves forward successfully, you'll then have the whole physical move itself to plan for. You'll be given a pack date for the movers, but prior to their arrival, you'll need to inventory everything that's going to KSA from your home, and at the same time possibly sell cars, make arrangements for selling/renting/safeguarding your house, rent a stoe unit, manage bank and legal affairs, make plans to ship or rehome pets, visit family and friends to say goodbye, etc.
In our family's case, my husband interviewed last May and was offered a job two days later, which indicated a July in-Kingdom arrival. That date was pushed forward and we actually arrived in August, right during Ramadan, and shortly before everything shut down here for the Eid. We needed every one of those weeks from May through August to get our act together in time to move a family of five overseas. The frustrating part, of couse, is not knowing exactly what to expect and when from the hiring process itself, and knowing that if one continency fails, the whole deal is off the table. We didn't take a family vacation last summer. There wouldn't have been a good time for us to be away from our home base, particularly since the actual departure date in August was left floating for some time, and there was just so much to do to close out our lives in the States.

Thanks a ton doonhamer for the date and hadia for all of the great info! I know there will be tons to do before we leave-if we indeed get to... We would be school teachers I believe, but who knows. We were first screened at a job fair in Houston and are anxiously awaiting the call for the second interview. Hadia, you mentioned space for kids in schools- that would be ours correct? And also, regarding time between interview and offer, about 1 or 2 days? My concern is the fact that we are teachers here in Houston, we need to sign contracts soon, and we surely want to assure that we either a)have jobs if somethimg falls through, or b) leave without shafting our current employers. How long does it take about to secure everything enough to tell our current districts we are indeed not returning for the next school year? Thank you all so much for your help! This is really helping calm my nerves!
