I have just excepted my offer and will be working as a paramedic at ABQ. My wife is an ER nurse with 5 years experience in adult and pediatric emergency departments. She wants to work as well but we were informed that since she is coming with me and our son on family status that she will need to wait 90 days before she can apply. I was wondering if this was normal and if anyone knew the likelihood of her getting a job at ABQ as a nurse. We both are looking forward to arriving in kingdom and working for aramco so any info would be great. I do want to take time to thank all who have posted in this forum because I have been able to answer almost all our questions and put my mind at ease about making such a life changing decision.

Aramco does not hire spouse nurses. She might be able to get a job at one of the local hospitals.
But it would never hurt to ask once she arrives. if they needed her expertise, they could make an exception.
The only Aramco Hospital is in Dhahran.

Are you sure they don't hire nurses that way? They used to hire spouses as doctors, I've known several. Things do change however, so there may be a new policy I'm not aware of.
And although Abqaiq doesn't have a "hospital" as such, it has a large Health Center with dozens of sections covering just about every possible area of health care.

Aramco hospital do not normally hire nurses who are wives of employees. Only hope would be local hospital or perhaps school nurse.

I have 2 friends who used to work as nurses at the hospital, but are no longer allowed to do so.

I've recently heard of a block on work visas for all (female) spouses i.e. Aramco is no longer issuing/hiring.

since we are on this rumour thing ....
My friend's department two weeks ago asked for a list from their employees with the name of spouse who wanted to work. Apparently some business line is losing a lot of staff and I guess it's one of the retention scheme perhaps, but I don't put too much stock in those "promises"

Aramco doesn't issue work visas so if there's a block on them for spouses, that's usually down to the Ministry of Labour. They do stop issuing them from time to time, which then means that Aramco cannot hire spouses until the block is lifted (which usually happens after a few months, each time it's happened before).

I used to work as a regular nurse in RT and when I got married and we got family status I was converted to casual employee. I stopped working when my daughter was born as I wanted to raise her myself. There are casual nurses in RT clinic.

Do y'all know why spouses can't work as a nurse? I'm an RN here in the states. We are still in the process of completing BI, medical and all of that so not 100% sure if we're coming or not. I did not plan to work because I have a 5 week old right now, but I thought maybe later I could try. I guess not?

hi all, my husband and i are moving to dharhan, hopefully straight into the compound as he will be working for aramco from march, i have seen there are quite alot of fitness activities, and gym structures in the compound, i currently run my own fitness business here in south africa, specialising in corrective exercise, exercise during pregnancy, stretch therapy, sports specific training, group training classes, moms and tods as well as alot of gross motor skill work with kids between the ages of 3 and 9, i would love to know if there is a demand for this at all in the compound, for either the moms or the kids or for both? i am wanting to carry on doing my work when we come across as i am very passionate about my job, i understand how hard it is for woman to run businesses within the saudi community. Any advice on how feasible it would be running my own business inside the compound would be appreciated? ?

You can arrange running your own classes through recreation once you are here. They will provide a building where you can run your classes. I am sure there will be those interested in what you have to teach.
Welcome to Aramco.

She can do a business among the women on camp, there are those who would love to help with their interiors. Once you are here, have her email me, I will put her in touch with a few folks. vpainter29@yahoo.com
