How is baggage weight handled on the local leg of your international flight? Especially when you have dish barrel boxes and with airlines using small planes these days connecting major hubs in the US. Appreciate all responses.

Save all of your receipts because the answer may vary from department to department, but we were told that those expenses were part of the "settling in allowance" that you get with your first paycheck. Although we flew business class and were enled to two large bags and a carry-on each for the international flight, because our first leg of the trip was on a small commuter jet to a larger airport, we were only allowed one free bag (no Business Class on those planes!) and had to pay for the second one. We faced the same thing when we flew from Dammam to Jeddah, even though it was Business Class, we were only allowed one and had to pay for the second one. Similarly, international flights allow heavier bags than the commuter jets, so I recommend checking with your airline to make sure you don't have to pay for extra bags AND overweight bags, and that adds up quickly!

I always look at it as"It's cheaper to fly it in than to mail it"...that helps with the fee at the airport for me!

initial flight is reimbursable, so keep your receipts and turn them in.
