I am considering accepting offer for RT position and wanted input from singles who work in KSA. I am a single U.S. male and was wondering if there are single females that work on the compounds and are single people who work there allowed to date? Also in general how is the social life for single people? I can imagine life there could be fairly close knit for expats if you are proactive at making friends...
Thanks,

I am also interested in this topic.
Do people including singles have parties? can you play loud music? (during respectable hours of course)
Are there any musos in RT...? I play guitar and want to play in front of people regularly....and wouldnt mind jamming with others.

Im not single myself but I know many british single males in RT and they seem to have a very active social life both here and in Bahrain. I must admit it seems they actually have a great time living here, Im not sure if they are saving any money mind you!

There is a 'behind the scenes' active singles life. It may take you awhile to get into the right group/email list/etc but there are parties and such.
Yes, on camp you can date, its almost like being in small down America. There is a small movie theater here on camp, but if you want new movies, a bar, clubs, etc you'll have to go to Bahrain which is only about 90 min away.
As others have said, there are quite a few singles here. Most nurses are on single status, as are a lot of teachers and such.

Thank you for those replies. It sounds like good news. Ive been practising guitar now for the last 3 years, and although I still need to learn how to sing properly....I can play 30-40 songs now.. Current flavor of the month is Creedence Clearwater Revival Oh and Ive been saving myself for a desert romance

You will do very very well here with playing music etc - as I said we know of a lot of musicians and it will be a good way for you to make great friends etc.
We can certainly introduce you to them.

Thanks in advance for helping me with some crazy or not so crazy questions. It's nice to know there are other singles living on Camp and quite a few musicians. Could make for a fun impromptu session.
Do any singles get together for pot lucks or go out to dinner?
In UAE some singles would meet at the Hilton or the Trader Vics Rotana for dinner. The difference being that women can drive to the meet up. Do groups van share for off camp dinners? Can men and women sit at the same table or adjacent tables in KSA? Or do women sit in a family only area and men sit in a men's area?
Do people get together and drive to Bahrain for eat outs?
Can women wear jeans to ride horses at the camp stable?
Can you buy Ricotta cheese? Does the on camp market stock it most of the time? Does the Carrefour or LuLu's hypermarket carry Ricotta? I understand these are quite far and a car and driver would be necessary.
Is there any public transportation to Carrefour or Lulus?
Thanks, Sherri

You'll definitely have some impromptu sessions!
Yes, singles get together and go out to dinner.
You can share a taxi, or a man can drive off camp.
If a man is with a woman, he can go into the family side of restaurants and you can sit together at a table. We have had singles go with married couples out to eat as a group as well.
Yes, people go to Bahrain together to eat and watch current movies.
There is a ladies only bus that goes to Bahrain twice a week for a fee.
You can wear jeans to ride or riding apparel to ride horses. All the horses are privately owned, you'll need to own your horse or know someone who does. You can join the equestrian group as an associate member and ride for people on vacation as well.
Ricotta cheese can be found in the commissary sometimes. sometimes at Tamimi or LuLu's or Carrefore's. Aramco shopping buses go to all those stores.
