We will be relocating to RT next month from Scotland and had planned to take the family dog with us. However I keep reading conflicting reports about small dogs being banned in KSA. Does anyone have any experience/advice about relocating a dog. She's a Bichon Frise, 8 months old.
Many thanks

Hi, We arrived several months ago and brought our dogs in after us. If you email me, I will share what we learned. There are 19 officially banned breeds, but any dog perceived as a toy breed or part toy (Bichon included),terrier, or part terrier will not be issued an import permit by the Ministry of Agriculture in Dammam, even though the breed is not on any published banned list. The import permit is issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and can be procured by you in person or someone acting on your behalf. You MUST have a permit if the dog travels without you as cargo, as you cannot get an airline waybill without it. There is some debate about if you need in import permit if the dog travels with you as checked baggage, we have never gotten a striaght answer on that. Some airlines will ask to see the permit/paperwork when you check in, in which case you will need it, and some websites state it is required, however we were told at the Ministry it is only needed if the pet enters as cargo.

My apologies to the above posters, I was editing posts for life in Aramco camps and mistakenly did this one. All posts restored.

When we came in a year ago the only thing they ask for was the pet permit here in Saudi. The dogs traveled under the plane as cargo and we picked them up at luggage to come through. The airlines on the other hand wanted the stack of paperwork you get done on the U.S. side.

I hope you have gotten the answers you need. I did not see my post up, so have not been paying attention. However, if you still need info from someone who has recently brought a dog in, send me an email at hewittn@yahoo.com.
