Hi,
From reading the forums I get an impression that the internet at the compounds is kind of an issue. Is it a feasible to get the STC QuickNet packages where we use the USB Dongle on the move to get better internet speed? I mean is the covee of STC good enough there?
Also, are there any other options?
PS:I am at the Dhahran Camp.
Thanks

Also if someone knows the answer for Ras Tanura, it would be much appreciated.

The standard Internet does work reasonably well on the camp. It is not as fast as you would get in Canada or the US, but it does work. The STC internet options are not available unless you have FTTH service, which would only be in some of the houses in Dhahran Hills. The only viable option, other than the Aramco Internet service, would be the wireless services. The reliability of these depends a lot on where you are in the camp. The Mobily service is not the best in the camp, but it does work usually work. Zain is fairly good for wireless service on the camp, as is STC. The downside is you are not getting the unlimited services unless you are willing to spend around 4-5 times what the Aramco service charges. I've been looking into the 4G service, but the only answer I can get is the providers do no have a lot of confidence in the service yet. It has promise, but as you may have seen, wireless services in the Kingdom are not always the best due to the heavy use.

You can also check with Cyberia in Rashid Mall, if they are still there, used to be on the 2nd floor (3rd floor - floors go G, 1, 2, etc.) in the old section of the mall.
We had cyberia for a while and it worked ok.

Can you share your experience on the speed of Cyberia? Do they really deliver 4 Mbps as promised? Did you get it installed on first or second line?
I see they list their office at Khobar Mall these days.

It was not as fast as our Aramco DSL at the time we used it. You had to dial into the server then. But worked well.

I haven't read all the forums so I'm not quite sure what other people have said, but I was not aware of any major problems recently.
Mine works fine and I have not heard any friends complaining either, for quite some time now. As vpainter mentions, it's faster than some of the outside providers.
