Hi,
I am in the hiring process at Aramco and was told to visit this website. Like many, I have a bunch of questions regarding the potential move to Dhahran, since I have a small family with 2 boys (1 in elementary and 1 in middle school). I can manage just about any change to my work environment, but I am more concerned about the transition of my household. Thanks in advance for any responses to these questions/requests:
1) I understand that the Aramco schools are very good. How many kids are in a typical class? Many schools in the U.S. have a 'gifted and talented' program for the more academically advanced kids. Does the Aramco school have something similar, or is it more one size fits all?
2) What sort of parent involvement is allowed at the schools? Is there an active parent volunteer program?
3) Are there any foriegn language tutors or classes being taught outside of school? Both of my children have been learning chinese every weekend, so I am wondering if we can keep that going while living in Dhahran. If there is nothing local, does anyone use an on-line program or service?
4) Is there a real need for a car? I just bought a new car one year ago, but its a Honda Accord and remember that most of the cars in Dhahran are American models. Do you recommend that I bring my own car or should I just acquire a new vehicle in Dhahran?
5) Looking back on your transition to Dhahran for your family, what is the biggest factor that you wish you had known more about before coming there?
6) Do you have kids in Dhahran High School? I see that they offer advanced placement courses in just about every subject, so I assume that it is academically compeive. How is the rest of the high school experience? What are the tradeoffs with using this school instead of one of the boarding schools? Do you think it prepares them well for college?
Any comments or suggestions appreciated.
