Hi there,
we just arrived in abqaiq camp few days ago, my wife is an engineer & used to work as scheduling engineer in canada. Is there any chance of getting her a job here with Aramco?
She has all the qualifications & professional certifications as per Aramco requirement & in fact in my own department there are vacancies but I'm getting -ve vibes, due to saudization it is most unlikely that she may get a casual job here, is it true? We are also applying online (aramco jobs website) for couple of vacancies in her field, what are the chances of getting her a job here? what is the best aproach?
I really appreciate any suggestions ...
Speedy

Some expat spouses do work as engineers. Go to HR and talk to them. Spouses are usually hired outside of the online application and pretty much always after arrival through HR. It can take some months to get all the approvals, so start the process. She might have to travel to DHA to work. You might have to talk to HR in DHA.

I had a Canadian friend working and living in Abqaiq was also trying hard to get his well qualified spouse hired. After two years of struggle, he call it a day to quit and returned home, Canada.

I've never heard of a woman working in the field, just in the office.

In my last department, we had several lady engineers, both expat and local - they were known to go to the field occasionally but both male and female engineers probably spent the vast majority of their time in an office environment.

Speedy, The chances of your wife getting work permit is extremely low. I know of and have heard of spouses who are engineers, doctors, pharmacists and other professions who have been interviewed by departments as casual employees and offered jobs. However the ministry of labour rejected the application for work permits for them after they had completed other pre-employment requirements such as background investigation and certificate verification. The only exceptions are teachers and teachers aides in Aramco schools. This is because Saudi's don't teach in Aramco schools. I am told the ministry stance is as a result of Saudization. The current situation started around early last year.

Just know, it never hurts to keep trying. Things change here all the time; one time or several times a no, the next could be a yes. If you want it keep trying.
