I was wondering if my Driver's license from Qatar would in any way facilitate obtaining a driver's license in KSA or do I have to go through driving classes, tests etc afresh again in KSA..
Appreciate if somebody can share their experience.

Yes having a driver's license helps you get a Saudi driver's license. But to drive an Aramco company vehicle you must go through their driving course.

It depends. I can't remember if having a Qatari Driving License will allow you to do a direct conversion to the Saudi license. I know that for the US and some countries, it's a direct conversion (they will give you a driving license without having you take the test etc).

Don't quote me 100% on this as I'm not sure if it's exactly up to date but according to the AlFifa website conversions are available for the following countries :-
European Union Canada United States Russia Australia New Zealand Japan China South Korea Malaysia Singapore South Africa

Within the EU, EU driving licences are accepted by all countries. This is also the case for the GCC, the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, where a licence from one state allows you to drive in all states.
The only advantage of having a GCC license is that you can get a Saudi driving license very quickly, just a few days after registering yourself in the school, i.e., you can cutshort the period where you actually have to take the training.
If you have a valid GCC driving license, you can drive in Saudi Arabia upto 3 months from the date you landed in the kingdom. Beyond that, you must have a Saudi driving license. (I have told many times in this website that I am not a legal expert. This is my personal blog based on my experiences in the kingdom for over a decade. What I can assure you is that every single detail here has been verified by me personally before being published).
This may have taken affect: Posted on 30/5/2011 : The latest three-day conference of directors of traffic departments from GCC nations, held at Abu Dhabi, have agreed on the introduction of a common driving license system in the GCC. The conference was being held to address the common challenges, policies and procedures pertaining to traffic issues. - 2011 guide2dubai.com

My husband have dutch driving license. So as per AlFifa website, conversion is possible as Netherlands is included in EU. But I have also heard that it is necessary that driving license should be of country from where your passport has been issued. Is it correct?
(My husband's passport has been issued from Pakistan)

o Mrs Khan
I would think on a logical side that as your husband has an EU driving license then he should have no problem here however I am only replying to this for someone to chip in and to give firm confirmation of this - but thank you for raising this as this is a very important question.
So let us hope that someone can reply to you fairly quickly.
Good luck Carolina

o PVK,
I have moved from Qatar as well and already in KSA. Qatar license can also be converted directly. It is very easy as everyhting took care of FIFA (office to take care of govt. office taks). If you will have any question later about license you can PM me.
Regards.

All, FIFA refused to help me convert my GCC valid License and giving me a story, that if i go myself it will be done in 2 or 3 hrs and my repeated requests are turned down. Does anyone knows 'where' i have to go do it. One Fifa rep said Dammam Police and other said Khobar traffic school ? just wondering if someone has attempted to do it themselves.
appreciate any pointers. thanks MJKR.
