Hi, Aramcons. All the approvals are done, and I'll be arriving as a Senior English Instructor on Nov 20. I have a few questions, if you would be so kind to help:
1) How do I get high speed internet to use Vonage, and how long does it take to establish it? 2) I'll be living and working Ras Tanura, what is bachelor housing like there? 3) Will I need to purchase a tv and a satellite plan? If so, any recommendations, cost estimates? 4) Is there any vital thing that I should bring from the US with me? 5) My pay grade is, if I have this correctly, GC 12. Does this determine my type of housing? 6) Any information on students, curriculum, management for Ras Tanura English instruction? 7) What is the dress code? I need to know what to pack.
Thanks, and I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon.
Warm Regards,
David Harwell

Welcome to Aramco! You'll love RT.
No worries, you'll have an orientation and you'll get your internet access all set up. Shall I LOL and tell you it can be a short process or long process. I hope yours is short. Remember patience as you get everything set up. Our vonage works great on the Aramco DSL.
If you have a favorite coffee maker or small appliance that you like to use, bring it. Your pillow if you like a certain one. There will be one in your housing, but if you really like yours bring it.
TV's do not come with the house, so yes you'll have to buy one if you don't bring one. Buy a multisystem TV here, so you can take it back home with you if your from the states. There are recent posts about bringing your TV from home and it working here. There are several satellite TV companies - Orbit Showtime Network being one of the favorites.
Yes, your GC is considered for your housing, usually it's a style difference, sometimes a small sq footage difference.
There are several RT residents on the forum, I'm sure they'll be answering your questions shortly.
bless with safe travels and a quick settling in!

Welcome to Ras Tanura David!
I've been here for one month and call this place home for now. Vpainter is right about doing your orientation first and you will figure out when you will get your ADSL network. Your general ARAMCO orientation will be within the first 3days of your arrival. Topics like iqama, how to get your multiple entry visa, cable services, driver license, health insurance and everything about ARAMCO.
Your supervisor will give you the schedule for your orientation and how to get to Dhahran where it is conducted.
The housing is a one bedroom house complete with furnitures. There are also some basic food in the house until you can do your shopping.
Regarding clothing, it is advised that you dress conservatively here.
You will also have a working phone in the house when you arrive and need to phone the housing to register under your name as soon as you can.
Your iqama is very important especially in processing a lot of things here especially your ARAMCO ID. Initially you'll get a temporary one but you have to replace it later. Just be patient on your waiting time for the iqama. Mine took 3 weeks.
Just pm me here if you have any questions that I could help answer.

Clothes you'll want: work (casual: [khakis, nice jeans, polos, dress shirts short and/or long sleeved] and perhaps a suit and tie or two for special occasions), casual outside of work including shorts, t-shirts, swim wear, etc --you can wear around the compound whatever you're used to wearing during your off time. Sports wear and gear if you play a sport and want to get involved.

Also, as for clothes....there is a beach but you cant take your shirt of.. ? How do you go swimming then? When its hot you need to strip off?
