I do not own a home or car in the US so my only insurance policy is the one for KSA. Do you somehow buy liability insurance when you return to the US to cover yourself while driving a rental car? Thanks.

You can buy insurance to cover you while driving a rental car from the rental agency.

It is my understanding that the insurance sold by the rental car company covers damages to their car, not liability insurance for you. Does anybody know?

Then wouldn't your health insurance cover you if there were an accident and you were injured?? Is that what you are asking?

I think you're right about the health insurance covering my family in an accident.
And I think the insurance sold by the rental agency covers their car if i have an accident.
I'm interested in liability insurance in case I have an accident and get sued.
Thanks.

The liability insurance is default/required by law. The insurance that covers the rental car itself is additional.

I rent cars every time I return to the states. The rental car companies have several insurance policies to choose from. Liability for the rental car only, full covee, and some even have a medical policy for you and others involved in the accident. Of course this covee is not cheap and it can cost more than renting the car.

Rent car and pay with your American express - my current Amex does not require me get liability covee.. check with Amex and call them to make sure. Alternate get liability cov through Geico for the month.. although I am just talking hypothetical with Geico as I have never done that before.
