Hi all, I was interviewed recently and the position requires quite a bit of commuting to the west part of the kingdom while the family stays in Dhahran. Kindly let me know your thoughts....pros/cons. Feel free to PM me if needed. Thanks.

If we are talking about driving around the western parts and interior then there are some seriously dodgy areas - like unmarked car sort of territory and something handy in the glove compartment. Of course i cant say any more but seriously if they are asking you to go into the backwoods - do your homework. Of course what I mean is the harsh climate, lack of water and all that
If you are talking about flying in and out of Jeddah each week thats fine although time spent back in DH with family will depend on flexibility of your manager to get earlier flights.
Despite the laws here coming will be the biggest g@mble you ever make

It will be mostly air travel, including the trips by car to the respective airports. Does aramco use it's own air service/airport? How is air travel compared to what we have in the states? i.e. flight cancellations, delays, etc.

Mr Barlow - without giving up your anonymity, can you be more specific about anyone's bad experiences or dodgy areas that are to be avoided? Many Aramcons travel around the country frequently staying a variety of locations
Colts18,
Aramco has their own planes and in some areas airports that can be utilised for long distance travel. My limited experience of Aramco flights so far is that they are punctual and safe
Depending on your job and where you need to go, you may be able use an Aramco vehicle.

I have worked in both Yanbu and Jeddah. Many people commuted every weekend on the company flights. Apart from the occasional delay or cancellation due to weather (usually sandstorms) the flights were very punctual and safe.
While living in the Western Province I frequently travelled with my family on weekends up into the mountains, along the coast etc. So did a lot of our friends. I never heard of anyone getting into any kind of difficulty (other than getting bogged down in soft sand if driving off-road). We normally stuck to paved roads or hard dirt tracks and never had that problem.
I'm not sure what Mr Barlow is referring to, there are no "dodgy" areas in the Western Province that I'm aware of. Central region maybe - but not the West coast area to the best of my knowledge (and I lived there more than 10 years).
For instance, we drove the entire length of the coast from Jordan in the North down to Yemen in the South (though not all in one go, of course) and never experienced any kind of misgivings about doing so.
