o all,
I'm getting very close to receiving a potential job offer from Aramco which will require relocation of myself, my wife and 3 year old daughter to Dhahran Camp. In anticipation, I am attempting to get some questions answered to assist with my decision on whether or not to accept. Would anyone currently living in Dhahran Camp be so kind as to take a few minutes to answer these? I'd certainly appreciate it. Here they are:
Automobiles/Transportation/Driving
1. Can we import a car that has a US Bank lien/loan on it? Even with a letter of authorization from the bank?
2. Are golf carts allowed on Dhahran Camp for personal use not associated with golfing?
3. Can women drive on Dhahran Camp?
4. Is there daily bus service between Dhahran Camp & the Aramco Aviation Facility at King Fahd International Airport?
5. Can a new arrival easily get a car loan for a new SUV?
6. Can we own two cars – one for the wife on camp & one for me to commute daily to work at King Fahd Intl Airport?
Schools/Education
1. I hear there is a new preschool for 4 year olds in the compound. Is that true? Are there options for 3 year olds?
2. Is there a swim class for 3 and 4 year olds?
Clothing/Shopping
1. What is the grocery store like? Anything we’re not able to get? Anything we should bring with us due to short/no supply?
2. How well does online shopping work in Dhahran? If we have a mail forwarding service, what is the typical length of time for a package to get there from the U.S.?
Communications
1. Max up/download speed of the internet? Cost for fastest service?
2. Does Skype work well?
3. I hear iPhones are sold in the KSA unlocked? True? How much are plans?
4. What is the cheapest way to make frequent calls to the U.S.?
5. What are the TV stations like? Is there plenty of western programming? Are the shows current?
Household Goods
1. Do we get to ship all of our household goods? Anything we should NOT ship?
2. Does Aramco pay for a complete household good shipment? What is the limit? If not, do they pay for household goods stoe in the USA?
Housing
1. What are the typical housing accommodations like in Dhahran for a married couple with one 3 year old daughter? #Bedrooms & Bathrooms & Other rooms?
2. Does anyone know where I might view pictures of housing accommodations for management personnel?
3. Is 120v the electrical power used on camp in Dhahran?
Extracurricular Activities
1. Does Dhahran have an active Scuba Diving Club?
2. Are there plenty of activities for 3 and 4 year old kids?
Clothing
1. Does my wife need an Abaya upon arrival in the country at the airport?
2. Are Abaya’s required for women within walls of the Dhahran Camp? Are shorts ok for women within the camp?
3. Are there places to buy children’s and women's clothes on camp?
Other
1. Is there a stay at home mom/wife who lives in Dhahran Camp that has young children willing to talk to my wife by phone/email?
2. Are family members allowed to visit us from the U.S.? Is there a time limit a family member/visitor can stay?
