Hi all,
I was wondering whether there are people out there who have golf carts for getting around the community site in Dhahran rather than actually playing golf? And if so, how much are they to rent/buy?
Thanks

Well, there's not many options on this one. You can either 1) hope someone sells them on classifieds or 2) order one from the states. Its not like the US where there's stores full of them lol. I went through AlGosaibi Trading Company in Dammam. A lot of others in RT have used them as well. They order Club Cars. There's an EZ Go dealer as well, but I tried contacting them via phone and email for 2 weeks and never got a reply. AlGosaibi was spot on with their customer service and always got right back with me. Ill be honest, they arent cheap. We got a 2007 refurb for about SR20,000. A brand new one runs about SR27,000 - SR29,000. Some people prefer just to buy a car if you're using them for transportation. The up side of a golf cart is they are usually reliable and cheap to work on. If you buy one my suggestion is get a gas powered one. The electric ones can be cheaper, but the batteries only last a few years and they are VERY expensive to replace (I think in the neighborhood of $800 (yes dollars)). My contact was > Biju Varghese > 847 4444 X 119 bvarghese@algosaibi.com.saIt took awhile for the order to come in, but they allowed us to come see the carts before final purchase, delivered it for free to RT, and didnt collect the money until almost a week after we had it. All in all it was a pleasant buying experience.

On RT we can drive golf carts as transportation, but on Dhahran, you cannot...unless that's been changed recently.

You cannot drive golf carts in DHA except to and from the golf course.

Thanks for the advice - as I will be in Dhahran looks like I will be using the buses instead for transportation.
Thanks again.

I see a lot of people riding small scooters to go around in the Dhahran compound. Those are cheap (looking at SAR3000 or maybe less). That's another option for you to look at.

Thanks Azraeli. Do you know if you have to possess a driving licence to ride a scooter at all?

Yes, Aramco regulations require any operator of a motor vehicle to possess a driver's license.

I know from my houseboy he is allowed to ride his scooter, but not a car on camp, because he does not have a driver's license. Don't know if it's different for company employees on camp. People ride their motorcycles on camp without a motorcycle license, they've been unable to join the motorcycle rally without it, but don't have a problem riding around camp. On camp you can drive with the driver's license from your home country, if you drive off camp then you need a Saudi driver's license.

At RT, we previously had issues with some people letting young kids drive motor scooters and golf carts around camp, and this simply wasn't safe. As a result, lots of residents complained about the situation. Now, if Security sees a violation, they will stop folks and check the status of their driver's license. If the driver looks too young to have a license, they will stop them and check for their license. No license = violation to the employee. Enforcement may vary from camp to camp, but they do enforce this here at RT.

they do check young people in DHA, but not adults. Don't break any traffic laws, you won't be stopped.
