I have found a driver (with his own car) to take my son to his school in the morning (off-camp). I have agreed with the driver on a price (say, SR30). Now, a friend's child wants to be driven to the same school. So, I thought my friend and I could split the fare and pay SR15 each. Is this common practice in KSA? Is it accepted practice for the driver to accept this or ask for double the fare? It is the same car & same drive but just with two passengers in it. I have driven many places with my wife and I and the driver never asked for double.

It's accepted practice for people to try to squeeze every time they can out of expats. On the one side its his car, his rules, and he can charge whatever he feels is fair for his time. If you dont like it hire another driver or bargain him down (They seem to love to bargain here). On the other side Ive never hired a driver, but when using cabs Ive always been able to split the price without a problem. My advice, talk him down or find another driver. If there are no other drivers then fair or not, there are no other options

Majestic and the other taxi services on camp can do a contracted hire. Check with them if you cannot find another driver. I don't know which school your child attends, but check with Aramco bus service, they may have a bus that goes to that school for free.
