I just received my written offer. I wonder is there any room/flexibility for negotiation, and if so, which components can be negotiated, and how far? For example, the base is actually ~10% lower than my current salary. I feel it would be quite reasonable to ask to at least match my current salary. Additionally, the position is a GC 14, but I don't know if this is considered good for someone with my level of experience, and if it is not, I'm not sure if grade is negotiable. I obtained only a few opinions about salary negotiation from the forum, and they vary. Some said only the base is negotiable; others advised against negotiating due to potential risk of Aramco withdrawing the offer. Any insights will be appreciated!

If your offered salary doesn't match your present salary, I recommend you counteroffer with your pay stubs again, with a letter explaining what your current salary is and you want them to meet it. More times than not, I've had feed back they met it.
Each position is assigned a GC, you may or may not be able to negotiate this.
Yes, there has been a couple of cases where someone tried to negotiate and the offer was withdrawn. No one can guarantee that won't happen. I can just tell you what I've know has happened over the 10+ years. Both the cases I know about the application was with Samso, the medical managing company.

Hi revive,
Just curious, did you submit your paystub initially with the application before you received this offer? Thanks.

I know it doesn't seem like the offer should be made when they already have your submitted pay stubs, but sometimes it comes back lower and you have to resubmit them with a letter requesting they match it.

They actually never asked for my paystub. But I did inform them of my current salary on the application form.
I went back to the ASC recruiter and negotiated verbally. I did not put anything in writing. He said he would ask management/the decision makers and get back to me. He also sounded surprised that the base was below my current salary, because he said it's typically at or above the current salary.

Zsb, No, they never requested a paystub. But I put my monthly salary in the application form.
Btw, I decided to also put my request in writing and included paystub as attachment (although Aramco never requested a paystub). Did that a couple of weeks ago. Still no news yet so hold tight.

Now that I've been waiting for a couple of weeks, I can't help but wonder about the possibility of Aramco withdrawing the offer. For what it's worth, my agent told me that shouldn't be an issue. It's just a long wait that's all.
vpainter, Have you ever seen a offer withdrawal impacting an engineering or finance position? I sense the probability of offer withdrawn depends on position (i.e. how easy to find a replacement). In this regards, engineers & finance are probably less replaceable, while other support roles such as teachers, meds, are probably more replaceable. Sorry no offense intended; that's just my hunch. And I think that reflects reality in the O&G industry.

I have seen offers put on hold, but only a handful of withdrawals over 10+ years, that I know about. As I mentioned Samso, a contractor who administers the Medical here, has done so.
In your instance, it sounds like it is just what is normally slow at times for whatever reason(s). If you haven't looked at the timelines people have been posting, you can to see the many different time lines at each step.

Just to clarify, SAMSO is the Saudi Aramco Medical Services Organization, an integral part of the company hierarchy and not a contractor organization.

For a data point, it took a full month for my revised offer to be provided. Like you, we spent some time nervously wondering if we should have simply taken the lower offer. In the end, it simply took time.
I should note that I had read of several people receiving revised offers in about a week, so we started to get antsy after 2 weeks. Recently, I've found a couple of posts that indicated receiving a revised offer a month later. I heard later that the supervisor was gone for a week, and that the department had a week-long meeting thereafter. So, sometimes there are just delays.
Hope that helps, CP

CP / vpainter, Thanks for your inputs. It turned out that the ASC recruiter had been away on a business trip. He just gave me a call today informing me that Aramco has upped the base offer which now actually beats my current salary. Great news indeed! Now awaiting the written offer & revised package.
Hope to see you all on Dhahran in due course

I'm in a similar boat: I just hope we have a more fluid communication in the next days/weeks.

antemareundae,
Vacation days are standard. It is 38 calendar days per year. You will get 4 travel days for your repat and on top of all this, you get 4 company approve rescheduled days off (to coincide with Saudi school holidays) and maybe 9-10 days for the Eid Holidays and the National days ... in total, close to 2 months of paid holidays.
