Joining shortly and thinking about if to ship or buy in Saudi, we are starting to lean towards the idea of shipping a container full of possessions from UK. Just wondering if anyone knows if our furniture etc is liable for any form of duty/import tax or any additional charges due to it being shipped in to the Kingdom?
Another concerns that I may need to be aware of that you can think of would also be appreciated as will help!
thanks in advance

I'd definitely recommend buying in Kingdom vs shipping. Lots of complications and potential hidden charges shipping.

As you are planning to come ahead, I’d make that decision once you’ve arrived. The houses are not big, not tiny but not spacious. You get two to a room so additional children’s furniture may not be needed, you might go into a 110v home, you might get an apartment with no gae/garden etc.
The fb pages and camp secondhand shop are full of people selling things they brought with them that don’t fit their home.

The shipping allowance is generous. You get a lump sum each for you and your wife as well as 50% for each child if my memory serves. It is more than ample to furnish the house to a reasonable level. The actual $$ figure I forget but your RA will be able to tell you. Either take the allowance and furnish the house locally or spend the entire allowance on shipping a container.
I do beg to differ on the house sizes. Compared to typical UK house I would say they are easily 50% larger and open plan. Tons of wardrobe (walk in or built in) and stoe space also.
Then consider what you or your family will do during summer. It is not uncommon for family to head back during the summer recess just to escape the worst of the heat.
